A Truly WTF Moment For Me

When I looked at the web site of the Las Vegas Sun, I had to check the date to make sure it was not April Fools Day.

From the Sun: Assemblyman Kelvin Atkinson was caught off guard Friday when new opposition developed to his bill to start a low-cost auto insurance program for people living below poverty level in Clark County.
Atkinson, D-North Las Vegas, said the opposition was sparked by the Republican Party, and he doesn’t know if he has the two-thirds vote to get it passed in the Senate.
Sen. Michael Roberson, R-Las Vegas, said a similar program isn’t working in California “and now you want to bring that failure to Nevada.”
But Sen. Mike Schneider, chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Labor and Energy, said the proposed bill is aimed at helping the working poor.

Let's see. The state of Nevada is darn near broke. Schools are failing. Unemployment is high. Programs are being cut left and right.

And some joker of a politician wants to the state to participate providing low cost auto insurance for the poor?

Is this a joke?

He is demanding that everyone who is responsible enough to buy auto insurance be taxed at $1 a year for others can drive.

Here is a clue, Assemblyman, if a person can't afford insurance, how are they going to afford gas? Are you give these people free gas as well? How about making car payments for them as well?

Did you, Assemblyman, ever hear of buses or bicycles?

If I am not mistaken, driving is a privilege, not a right. No one has the right to drive a car. And if they cannot afford to pay for car, then don't drive. Sometimes, life sucks.

What's also amazing is that this bill was supported by the GOP in the Assembly. Why? Did they lose some common sense for a day?

So, look out, Nevada, we have another Super Nanny roaming the halls of the Capitol in Carson City: Kelvin Atkinson

Even John McEnroe weighed in on the issue:
