A university spokesperson confirmed that the trophy was accidentally knocked from its stand by the father of a current player, but declined to identify the man, who apparently tripped near the display.
The trophy, made of Waterford crystal, is valued at $30,000, and it remains unclear if UA had the item insured. It was on display in the Mal Moore Athletic Building when the accident happened following the Crimson Tide’s annual A-Day scrimmage Saturday. The trophy was being displayed in the Hall of Champions on the building’s second floor. http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20120416/NEWS/120419805
This happened this past April.
I hope they take better care of the BCS trophy this year.
But can they be trusted to take of the trophy? If they break it this year, they should be banned for life from ever being in the championship game again.
