More Newspapers Limiting Access To Their Web Sites

From the Charlotte Observer:  McClatchy Co. announced Friday that metered pay walls will be installed at the company’s newspaper websites, including CharlotteObserver.com.
While McClatchy did not disclose specifics of the plan, which will begin late this year, the company said users would be allowed a number of free page views per month before being required to pay a subscription fee.  http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/07/27/3410429/mcclatchy-to-end-unlimited-access.html
There have been many newspapers in the last few months that have decided to limit access to their web sites.  Newspapers are losing revenue because of the web sites.  Newspapers are losing revenue because of falling number of newspaper subscriptions.  The problem is that when the newspapers come out the news is often 2 hours old or more and the news have been on their web site within an hour or less of the news occurring.
The problem you have with web sites of the newspapers is that they don't bring in many advertising dollars.  So, many newspapers are trying to get people to subscribe to their paper and if you do, then you can access their web site for free.
So far, while I have run into some problems with some newspapers and their web page limits, I am usually able to get around it.
I don't know if this will work for the newspapers.  Newspapers need income to pay for their employees but will this increase their number of subscriptions?  I think the money raised will be minimal and in doing so, it will reduce the number of page views, which will reduce their income from the web.
But many newspapers can increase the number of subscriptions if they were not so liberal and had a liberal bias in their articles.  But most newspapers would rather push their agenda down people's throats than make money for their employers.
So, we will see if this is a fad that goes away in a short time or the new revenue source for the newspapers.

City Of Los Angeles Kills More Business

Another day, another day that a government agency kills off more businesses.  This time, it is the Los Angeles city government and the businesses are pot markets.
From the LA Daily News: Undeterred by the threat of a referendum, Los Angeles city officials intend next week to start developing their plan to shut down more than 900 medical marijuana dispensaries across the city.
City Councilman Jose Huizar, author of the clinic ban passed by the City Council this week, said he also hopes to begin talking to state legislators about changing the law to help cities deal with the issues they face with medical marijuana.
"The state laws need to be tightened to control who can get a prescription and what diseases qualify for using marijuana," Huizar said.
Huizar's measure will ban all 782 dispensaries that have registered with the city, plus the roughly 200 others that city officials believe are operating without registration.
A meeting with officials from the City Attorney's Office and the Los Angeles Police Department is needed to develop an enforcement strategy, Huizar said.
"It's easy to pass legislation, but unless we enforce it, it's nothing," Huizar said, adding he was concerned there might be public confusion on the matter.
"This is a blanket ban on all dispensaries whether they were registered under the ICO (interim control ordinance) or not."
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has said he will sign the measure once it reaches his office.
Questions have been raised over how patients will be able to obtain the marijuana after the ban takes effect.
 http://www.dailynews.com/breakingnews/ci_21178309/los-angeles-officials-developing-plans-close-pot-clinics
For the record, i never smoked pot and against the legalization of pot.
Instead of trying to work something out, the LA city council just decided to put all pot clinics out of business, making owners lose their business without compensation and their employees who will now go on unemployment compensation.
I am sure there were problems in the neighborhood where the clinics were located, but the city could have made rules to enforce existing laws.
Now, instead of going to your local pot clinic for their medical pot, now the patients will have to depend on their local drug pusher.
Great.

Olympic Ceremonies The Good, Bad And Ugly

I am almost done watching the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympics and I have to give kudos to the London organizers.
The Great:  The lighting of the Olympic Flame.
The fireworks
The parade of athletes
Hey Jude

The Good:  The kids singing the national Anthem of Great Britain
Most of the uniforms of the athletes
The lighting displays
The incorporation of disabled in the dance and singing scenes
Mary Poppins
The rocket men
Mr. Bean

The Bad
Paul McCartney's voice
The United States uniforms (Harry Reid was right- they should have come in with fig leaves- that would have been better than what they wore)
The dance with the nurses, doctors and patients.  What the hell was that all about?
Those darn flashes from cameras.
Muhammad Ali

The Ugly:
Queen Elizabeth- she looked totally out of it
The French PA announcer
Saudi Arabia and NBC for not showing the female athletes of Saudi Arabia.  From a far away shot, it looked like they may have been wearing burkas.  But we will never know as NBC did not show them even though NBC showed all the other female athletes.

What are your thoughts?.

Should All Disabled Be Allowed To Vote?

From the Minneapolis Star Tribune: The summer of Minnesota's discontent over voting rules has spun off a related fight: whether disabled people who cannot handle their own affairs should retain the right to vote.
The debate has set off alarms among disabled people and their advocates, adding another layer of controversy to the legal and political battle over whether Minnesota needs a photo ID requirement for voters, changes in Election Day registration and a new provisional balloting system.
"I want to vote," said Dave McMahan, a 61-year-old military veteran with mental illness who lives in a Minneapolis group home and has his affairs controlled by a legal guardian. "I've been through sweat and blood to vote. I don't want my rights taken away, because I fought for my rights here in the United States and expect to keep them that way."
Equally passionate is Ron Kaus of Duluth, an activist and plaintiff in a federal lawsuit that has raised the issue. Citing allegations in Crow Wing County in 2010, Kaus worries that disabled people have been hauled to the polls and told whom to vote for, which would be a crime. "It's one of the sickest form of exploitation, political abuse," he said....
Rep. Mary Kiffmeyer, R-Big Lake, a former secretary of state who has led the charge for a photo ID requirement, also sponsored a bill this year to tighten up guardianship voting. She is the guardian for her own disabled sister, and views the limits as a way of protecting vulnerable adults from being manipulated at the polling place.
The bill stalled, but the cause has been taken up in a wide-ranging federal lawsuit filed in February by the Minnesota Voters Alliance, state Rep. Sondra Erickson, R-Princeton, and Kaus and his organization, the Minnesota Freedom Council. They note that the Minnesota Constitution prohibits those under guardianship from voting.
"Some people are so disabled, and they don't have the mental capacity to vote, and caregivers shouldn't bring them to the polling place," said Erick Kaardal, lawyer for Kaus and other plaintiffs. He said those who are so disabled that their affairs are completely controlled by a guardian should have to show a judge they are capable of voting.  http://www.startribune.com/politics/164098296.html?refer=y
I work with the severely disabled and there is no way they should be allowed to vote.  They don't speak, write or read.  They have no idea about politics, the politicians and the issues. (that being said, there are many so called normal people who have no idea about politics, politicians and issues)
However, these folks would be manipulated into who to vote for.and that is not fair because it would not be their vote but the vote of the person who brings them.
When I worked at San Haven State Hospital, a state institution in northern North Dakota and the City of Dunseith, we had court orders to prove that we were able to "normalize" the residents of the institution.  SanHaven had about 300 residents, all severely to profoundly mentally disabled.  Very few could write or read and they had no idea about the politics.  But about half of the residents on voting day were brought to the polls to vote and none of the residents knew what was going on.  So, the aides voted for the residents.  Because Dunseith has only about 700 residents in the town- probably fewer then.  It is very possible that the election was decided by our residents, even though they had no clue what was going on.
Since it is impossible to give an IQ test for a person to vote, the only other criteria you can have to disallowing these disabled to vote is deciding that a person who is in need of a court appointed guardian to look out for them and their needs and then a judge deciding if they should have the right to vote.
So, it will be interesting to see how this will play out in Minnesota.

Rush Limbaugh Nails San Fran Mayor

From the San Francisco Chronicle:
As Comrade Will Kane blogged, Mayor Ed Lee jumped into the Chick-fil-A controversy today with these tweets.
“Closest #ChickFilA to San Francisco is 40 miles away & I strongly recommend that they not try to come any closer.” – @mayoredlee tweeted Thursday.
“Very disappointed #ChickFilA doesn’t share San Francisco’s values & strong commitment to equality for everyone.” – @mayoredlee added.
As AP reports: “The latest skirmish in the nation’s culture wars began when Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press that the company was “guilty as charged” for backing “the biblical definition of a family.”  Because Cathy expressed his personal beliefs, politically correct forces want to run his out of business.
Rush Limbaugh jumped on Lee’s comments by observing that the San Francisco mayor welcomes homeless defecating on BART escalators, but not a successful business enterprise. But then, City Hall always has cared more about scrubbing away unwelcome ideas than cleaning up city sidewalks, streets and public spaces.
Yeah, what he said.

Catholoics 1 Obama 0

From Fox News: The Catholic family that owns a Colorado-based company won a court victory in their battle to stop the Obama administration from requiring them to provide insurance coverage for abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception, a mandate they say violates their religious beliefs and First Amendment rights.
Hercules Industries, a Denver-based heating ventilation and air conditioning manufacturer that employs nearly 300 full-time workers, got an injunction in federal court which stops enforcement of the controversial ObamaCare mandate. The company's lawyers said they needed the injunction immediately because if the mandate is enforced, it must begin immediately making changes to its health plan, which renews on Nov. 1.
The case is similar to ones brought by Catholic-based colleges that have refused to provide employee insurance with such coverage, except this time, it is a secular corporation.
In his order, Colorado District Judge John Kane said that the government’s arguments “are countered, and indeed outweighed, by the public interest in the free exercise of religion."
The case still must be aired out in court, but lawyers representing Hercules savored the  temporary victory.
“Every American, including family business owners, should be free to live and do business according to their faith. For the time being, Hercules Industries will be able to do just that,” said Matt Bowman, legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, the Arizona-based organization representing the Newlands. “The bottom line is that Congress and the Constitution explicitly protect all religious freedom. They don’t exclude family businesses.”
This going to be the first of many losses for Obama on this issue.  Obama overreached and then lied to the Bishops about their forced paying for contraceptives in their insurance.
This part of Obama care will be shot down by the Supreme Court, probably with a 7-2 majority.

Las Vegas Catholic Bishop Gets New Supervisor

I have to be honest, I didn't know who was the supervisor of the Las Vegas Catholic Diocese's Bishop Pepe.  It's the Archbishop of San Francisco.
From the Las Vegas Sun: .A vigorous supporter of California's same-sex marriage ban was named Friday as the next Roman Catholic archbishop of San Francisco.
The Vatican announced that Pope Benedict XVI selected the Rev. Salvatore Cordileone, the presiding bishop of Oakland, to replace Archbishop George Niederauer in October. Niederauer, 76, is retiring.
As an auxiliary bishop in San Diego four years ago, Cordileone, 56, was instrumental in devising an initiative to strip same-sex couples of the right to wed in California and then raising Catholic dollars to qualify it for the ballot.
He also was part of a statewide network of clergy that promoted the measure, known as Proposition 8. Campaign finance records show he personally gave at least $6,000 to back the voter-approved ban.
Since last year, Cordileone has been chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage.
In an interview with the National Catholic Register last year, Cordileone said that same-sex marriage is "a very serious social experiment that will have dire consequences." Opposing it is "not a matter of religion," he said.....
Gay rights groups criticized the Pope's choice of Cordileone to lead the San Francisco Archdiocese, which serves more than 400,000 Catholics in the city and neighboring Marin and San Mateo counties. As archbishop, he also will oversee the bishops in Honolulu, Las Vegas, Oakland, Reno, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Jose, Santa Rosa, and Stockton.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/jul/27/us-san-francisco-archbishop/
As far as the gay rights activists are concerned, I am pretty sure that most of them are not Catholics, so their view points mean nothing.  But who did they expect would be appointed, a pro-gay marriage bishop?  Someone who doesn't believe in the Catholic Church's beliefs?
Quite frankly, it seems rather stupid to me that these gay activists keep going after the Catholic Church, especially since most churches welcome gay parishioners.
Why don't these gay activists go after Muslims, especially since they execute gays in the name of the Muslim religion in the Middle East.  Which religion is more barbaric to gays?  Catholics or Muslims?
So, it is nice that Bishop Pepe has a new supervisor.  Maybe he will be tougher on priests who steal money from it's church, like Kevin McAuliffe.  The Diocese still list McAuliffe on it's web page of priests.

Which Dream Team Is Better? 2012 Or 1992?

From ESPN: LeBron James has joined Kobe Bryant in saying that he believes this year's Team USA Olympic men's basketball team could beat the 1992 Dream Team.
Days before the current U.S. squad takes the court in London, James made his boast in a recent television interview.
"As a competitor you never want to say that you will lose, no matter who you are going against," James told ABC News "Nightline" anchor Cynthia McFadden.

James did express his respect to the iconic 1992 team, which was led by Michael Jordan and included 11 future Hall of Famers. That team won its six Olympic games by an average of more than 43 points en route to capturing the gold medal in Barcelona.
"The '92 Dream Team paved the way for all of us ... We understand what they did for our game, but we also are big-time competitors as well, so if we got the opportunity to play them in a game we feel like we would win, too," James said.http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/2012/basketball/story/_/id/8205408/lebron-james-says-united-states-olympic-team-beat-1992-dream
The 1992 team had Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, David Robinson, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley and several other talented players.
The 2012 basketball team has Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant,  Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and a few more players.
The 1992 has many Hall of Famers on the team but the only 2 guaranteed Hall of Famers are Kobe and LeBron.
The 1992 team had a team and the 2012 team is made up of mostly individual ball hogs and it is possible that they may not even win the gold medal.
This one is easy to say: the 1992 Dream Team would kick ass on the 2012 team

Happy Days Star, Erin Moran, Down On Her Luck

This is one, I don't understand.
From radaronline:Happy Days star Erin Moran is haggard, near-broke and living in a rundown trailer park!
The 51-year-old actress -- who won America’s heart as Richie Cunningham’s fresh-faced little sis Joanie on the hit ’70s sitcom -- has hit rock bottom after being evicted from her California home, sources tell the National Enquirer.
Moran's last acting gig was years ago and now she and her husband Steve Fleischmann are sharing a trailer with his elderly mother in the Berkshire Pointe Mobile Home Park in New Salisbury, Indiana.
PHOTOS: Celebrities Who Have Filed For Bankruptcy
“Life hasn’t been kind to Erin since the foreclosure of her home,” a family friend told The Enquirer. “She and Steve moved in with his ailing mother at the trailer park a few weeks back. Erin is like an angel to her mother-in-law. She cooks and cleans for her and takes care of her personal hygiene. But to look at Erin today you’d never know she was once one of TV’s biggest stars. Her peaches-and-cream complexion is a maze of wrinkles and crow’s feet. She’s aged terribly.”
Despite that, Erin -- who married Steve, 45, a former furniture mover, in 1993 -- is trying hard to maintain a good attitude, said the source.
“She’s been mingling with the locals and taking pictures with people who recognize her. She’s even frequented the local bar,” the source added.
http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2012/06/happy-days-star-erin-moran-broke-living-trailer-park
Erin never seemed to get in to scandals, didn't seem like the type to do stupid things with her money or other things that make people go broke.  You would have thought she would have had enough money to pay cash for a house with plenty of money left over for expenses.
But something went so wrong that she got kicked out of her house and now is living with her mother-in-law in a trailer court.  It also seems like she may have cut ties with some of the Happy Day's cast as you would think people like Ron Howard would have thrown her a bone and hired her for some projects.
It is shocking to see this, and like most guys my age, yeah, I had a childhood crush on her when she first showed up on Happy Days.  Hopefully, she will be able to get it together, scrape some money together and buy a house.  She's seems like a nice person, so, hopefully she'll get to the top again.

And The Hits Keep On Coming For Valley/Nevada Residents

First, it was the electric company.  Then the water company.  Food Prices.  Health insurance companies.  Gas prices. And now, natural gas prices.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Paying an extra $3.76 each month may not seem like a burden. A drink at Starbucks can easily cost more. Yet for Angel DeFazio, an elderly Las Vegas woman, paying that much more for her natural-gas bill is a raw deal.
As she sees it, Southwest Gas Corp. needs to cut its own expenses, not raise revenue by charging customers more. DeFazio was one of a handful of valley residents who spoke Thursday night at a state Public Utilities Commission hearing, in which people were given a chance to voice their opinions on Southwest’s proposed rate hike. They were all critical.....
Las Vegas-based Southwest Gas filed a request with the PUC in April seeking to raise rates in Southern and Northern Nevada. Under the proposal, the average rate increase for a single-family residence in Southern Nevada would be 8.3 percent. This would push up the average monthly bill by $3.76 to $49.05.
In Northern Nevada, the average rate increase would be 2.16 percent. This would cause the average monthly bill there to rise by $1.67 to $79.10, according to the most recent estimates from the company.
Southwest is also seeking PUC approval to implement a "Gas Infrastructure Replacement" mechanism. This would let the company "recover the investment" of certain infrastructure costs that do not generate additional revenue, according to the commission.
As planned by Southwest, the rate hikes would take effect Nov. 1. They are expected to generate an additional $24.9 million of revenue from Southern Nevada and $2 million from the northern part of the state, says Southwest.  http://www.vegasinc.com/news/2012/jul/26/proposed-southwest-gas-rate-hike-motivates-las-veg/
On one hand, the cost of gas is actually pretty reasonable in Las Vegas.  In fact, my last gas bill was about $6 in gas, but almost $15 in fees and taxes.  In winter, my bill goes up to an astonishing $40.  So, any gas increase will be minimal.
However, that's just us.  Those who are on welfare, unemployed or live in colder areas of Nevada, it will have a much bigger impact.
Part of the reason for the increase was to increase their return (profit).  I am all for profit, if a company earns it.  The more profit, the better.  However, we are asking public employees to take pay cuts and/or reduced hours and private employees have it even worse.  So, until the economy gets better, utility companies should only have minimal profits.  And $123 million in profit is not a bad profit.
In addition, natural gas costs have plummeted but has Southwest lowered our gas prices because of this?  Nope.
So, should the PUC grant Southwest it's price increase?  Only when Southwest lowers it's prices when natural gas prices go down.

Reading Comprehension Problem For Pahrump Valley Times

The Pahrump Valley Times likes to chide people to read their articles if a reader makes a mistake when commenting on an article.
Well, the PVT has some reading comprehension problems of their own.  From today's editorial:
In some places the killing is so thick, the media can only expose so much of it. Take Chicago for example. At the six-month mark this year, the city had already recorded 250 homicides, up about 38 percent from the year before, and about 60 less than New York City, which is three times larger. Forty people were shot and killed alone on Memorial Day weekend in the Windy City — that’s more than three Aurora, Colorados in one weekend.
http://pvtimes.com/news/editorial-board-talking-about-guns-in-aurora-aftermath-is-pointless/
Except is was 40 shot and 10 killed.
More than 40 people were shot in Chicago over the holiday weekend, and at least 10 of them were killed, NBCChicago.com reported.  http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/05/29/11935475-violent-holiday-weekend-claims-at-least-10-lives-in-chicago?lite

Oops, PVT.  I guess you are not perfect, are you.

Shock: Obama Misleads Public Again

From The Gateway Pundit: June 24, 2012 – President Barack Obama visited Portland Tuesday greeting diners Mark Peterson, center, and Thomas Foeller, right, at the Gateway Breakfast House in an unschedueld stop on the way to fundraisers at the Oregon Convention Center. Michael Lloyd/The Oregonian.
But then the truth eked its way out—-
The three veterans were not regulars.

They just happened to be sitting in a booth at the diner when Obama popped in.
Victoria Taft
has more, via Orbusmax:
“No, they were not regulars.” The waitress who served President Obama, Mary, told me the veterans with whom the President discussed “health care” were not regulars. “Well, maybe one of the guys came in here before…”
In fact, the Obama Campaign even had a copy of their bios on hand.
And, one of the veterans just happens to be an Obama for America volunteer!

The roundtable participants, as provided by the campaign:
-Dean Dilley from Portland
Dean enlisted in the U.S. Army 1972 when he was 20 years old. He served for three years, from 1972-1975 as a supply specialist. He retired from American Honda Motor Company in 2009, where he worked as a stock and material handler and is currently a volunteer for Obama for America....

 http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2012/07/stunner-obama-s-3-surprised-veterans-at-portland-diner-were-likely-plants/
Obama and his campaign staff just think the public are just a bunch of rubes who will believe anything that they say.  This is just as bad or worse than when Jimmy Carter would carry his suitcases down the plane so it would look like he is just an ordinary guy, except the suitcases were empty.
Carter was a fool and a terrible president, and Obama is a fool and a worse president.

This Is Still True: Archie Bunker Still Smarter Than Obama

Big Pot Busts In Clark County

From the Las Vegas Sun: A tip from a hiker walking near Wallace Canyon led to the discovery of one of the largest outdoor marijuana grow operations in Clark County on Wednesday, Metro Police officials said.
Officials said the hiker alerted police after he came across four plots of marijuana plants near the 8,400-foot level of the canyon located on State Route 160. Officers from a drug-trafficking task force removed the plants, which could have produced more than 11,000 pounds of marijuana and was worth an estimated $16.5 million, officials said.
Officials said investigation into the pot operation is ongoing.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/jul/26/hiker-discovers-vast-marijuana-grow-operation/
And
The athletic director of College of Southern Nevada said an assistant baseball coach charged in connection with an alleged marijuana growth operation has not been employed with the school since May.
In a statement released Friday, CSN Athletic Director Marc Morse said he and the school were "surprised" about the arrest of Ezekial Parraz.
Parraz, 29, was arrested Thursday after police raided his home where 186 marijuana plants were found.
Parraz was charged with possession of a controlled substance and intent to sell.
Morse indicated Parraz was a part-time employee with the school. Parraz' contract expired May 31, Morse said.

Reminds me of this song when i was growing up:

Obama To Hospitals That Treat Illegals: Suckers

From the Sacramento Bee: President Barack Obama's health care law is putting new strains on some of the nation's most hard-pressed hospitals, by cutting aid that they use to pay for emergency care for illegal immigrants, which they have long been required to provide.
The federal government has been spending $20 billion annually to reimburse these hospitals — most in poor urban and rural areas —for treating more than their share of the uninsured, including illegal immigrants. The health care law will eventually cut that money in half, based on the premise that fewer people will lack insurance after the law takes effect.
But the estimated 11 million people now living illegally in the United States are not covered by the health care law. Its sponsors, seeking to sidestep the contentious debate over immigration, excluded them from the law's benefits.
As a result, safety-net hospitals said the cuts would deal a severe blow to their finances.
The hospitals are coming under this pressure because many of their uninsured patients are illegal immigrants, and because their large pools of uninsured or poorly insured patients are not expected to be reduced significantly under the Affordable Care Act, even as federal aid shrinks.
http://www.sacbee.com/2012/07/26/4665140/illegal-migrants-hurt-by-new-law.html#storylink=omni_popular
And as time goes by, we will find more surprises in the bill that will screw more and more people. and those of us in the Southwest will be hurt the worse.
My view on illegals who seek free medical care- treat them so they are stable and then put them on an ambulance plane and send them to their home country.

Chic Fill A Controversy No Big Deal In Las Vegas

There is big dumb controversy in the country about how the owner of Chic Fill A believes in traditional marriage of 1 man 1 woman.
Then a bunch of liberals, showing their tolerance, condemn the owner and some other stupid politicians try to get into the act by saying Chic A Fill A is not wanted in their cities.  Would they have the have the same tolerance if a conservative mayor didn't allow gay friendly stores like Starbucks in their cities?  Of course not, just proving how hypocritical they are.
Well, here in Las Vegas, we already about Chic Fill A and their intolerance.  They will not build a store in Vegas and probably Nevada because of Sin City nickname and it's reputation, real or imagined.  Do we cry about it?  Do we protest?  Of course not, we have better things to do.
So, to those who are worked up about what the owner of a company believes in, get over yourselves.  It's not a big deal and the company really doesn't care what you think.  They are not going to change their views just because you feel outraged.  If this issue was about money, which it is not, then maybe they would listen.  But this company loses tons of money by not opening on Sundays, so do you think they care if they lose a few dollars because of someones false outrage?  Of course not.
Just get over it, there are more important things to get mad about. Like Madonna being booed in France.

House Votes To Audit Federal Reserve, Harry Reid Gets Dementia Again

From the Washington Post: : A bipartisan bill requiring broader operational audits of the U.S. Federal Reserve passed the House on Wednesday by a broad bipartisan margin.
The bill passed 327 to 98; all but one Republican and 89 Democrats voted yes. The bill will be considered under the suspension of normal House rules, meaning it required at least a two-thirds majority to pass.
The measure would permit government auditors to conduct deeper audits of the Fed’s monetary policy operations. Despite opposition from some Democrats and the Federal Reserve, the bill has at least 274 cosponsors, including more than three dozen Democrats facing difficult reelection campaigns.
Wednesday’s vote was a coup for its chief sponsor, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.), a longtime nemesis of the Fed, which he has called “an enormously destructive and unaccountable force in both the U.S. economy and the greater global economy.”  http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/2chambers/post/audit-the-fed-bill-set-for-house-vote/2012/07/24/gJQAJypU7W_blog.html
Well, that is good news and I am sure Coward/Crybaby Harry Reid would immediately take up the bill, correct? Nope, no plans to bring it up because Crybaby/Coward Reid doesn't want to.  Well, obviously Reid is having another senile moment as he demanded the fed be audited in 1995:

Another Reason Not Visit San Francisco

From the San Francisco Chronicle: When work crews pulled open a broken BART escalator at San Francisco's Civic Center Station last month, they found so much human excrement in its works they had to call a hazardous-materials team.
While the sheer volume of human waste was surprising, its presence was not. Once the stations close, the bottom of BART station stairwells in downtown San Francisco are often a prime location for homeless people to camp for the night or find a private place to relieve themselves.
All those biological excretions can gum up the wheels and gears of BART's escalators, shutting them down for long periods of extended repairs, increasing station cleaning costs and creating an unpleasant aroma for morning commuters.
Five of the nine escalators that weren't working at BART stations on Wednesday were in downtown San Francisco, said Jim Allison, a BART spokesman. While there are many reasons a BART escalator can break down, the beating they take at night is among the most acute.
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Human-waste-shuts-down-BART-escalators-3735981.php
There's a lot of reasons not to visit San Francisco- liberals, cool foggy weather and a city fool of weirdo;s and crack pots.  But I think this may make the top 2 or 3.

San Fracisco Chronicle Shows It's Bigotry

The San Francisco Chronicle today, ran it's most memorable moments in Olympic history.  Included were Mary Lou Retton, Michael Phelps, the 1972 USA men's basketball debacle, Jesse Owens and the bombing at the Atlanta Olympics.
However, probably the most tragic and most non-athletic memory of the Olympics was missing.  That is the killing of 11 Israeli athletes in Munich, Germany in 1972.  How could that not make the list, unless there some bigotry at the Chronicle, which by the way, may be imitating the International Olympic Committee who is refusing to have a 60 second moment of silence during the opening ceremonies in London.
The IOC supposedly said they will hold the moment of silence during the summer games on the 50 year anniversary of the massacre.

Why Isn't This Surprising?

From Fox News: Union heads representing thousands of America's immigration agents slammed the Obama administration Thursday over a policy they claim is forcing officials to ignore the law and allowing illegal immigrants to exploit the system.
In a startling allegation, the president of the union representing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers claimed illegal immigrants are "taking advantage" of a new directive allowing some undocumented residents who came to the U.S. as children to stay in the country. Union boss Chris Crane said the policy ends up allowing illegal immigrants to avoid detention without any proof -- particularly so-called "dreamers," or those illegal immigrants who would benefit under the "DREAM Act" proposal, which Congress has not passed but the administration  has partially implemented.
"Prosecutorial discretion for dreamers is solely based on the individual's claims. Our orders are if an alien says they went to high school, then let them go," he said at a press conference with GOP senators. "Officers have been told that there is no burden for the alien to prove anything. ... At this point we don't even know why DHS has criteria at all, as there is no requirement or burden to prove anything on the part of the alien.
"We believe that significant numbers of people who are not dreamers are taking advantage of this practice to avoid arrest," he said.
This Obama policy is so easy to get around if you are an illegal alien.
Most illegals who come over to the U.S. are fairly young, probably less than 30 years old.  The older people in Mexico and other countries are not going to cross the borders because they already are established i their home country and if they wanted to cross, they would have done it earlier.
So, illegals can over the border a week ago and then go to ICE and say they went to high school in the U.S. and nothing will happen to them because they don't have to prove anything.
At the very least, if any illegal who is claiming an exemption to be thrown out of the U.S. should actually prove they went to high school in the U.S. by providing a school transcript..  If they cannot provide the documentation, then out they go.
Another stupid policy by the coward in chief.

No, It's Not Me

From Michelle Malkin: Brian Williams, the sonorous news anchor for NBC News, was reading from a script when he asked Romney, the Republican Party’s presumptive presidential nominee, if it’s true he’s seeking an “incredibly boring white guy” for a running mate. http://michellemalkin.com/2012/07/26/nbc-williams-romney/
Romney had a great answer, though: “You told me you were not available,” Romney replied, laughing.
Obama would never have come up with that comment- teleprompters are not that fast to put up information.

Watch Out Sister Wive's Cody Brown

From The Indian Express: In an extraordinary case of jealousy, a Nigerian man - husband of six - was allegedly raped to death by his five spouses as he was paying too much attention to his sixth wife in east-central Benue state.
Uroko Onoja, a wealthy businessman, was having sex with his youngest wife when the other five women attacked him with knives and sticks, demanding that he have sex with all of them at once.
Onoja, who resisted their attack, was overpowered by the women who ordered that the sex march begin with the youngest wife and to continue in that order to the top, Nigeria's Daily reported.
Onoja stopped breathing when the fifth woman was making her way to the bed.
According Onoja's youngest wife, five other spouses ran into the forest realising that their husband is no more.
Village head Okpe Odoh said that the matter had been reported to the police, who have already arrested two of the wives following the incident last week.

An occupational hazard  for polygamists everywhere?

Watch Out: Saying The Word "Monday" Can Get You Fired

From ESPN: A Massachusetts mayor on Thursday fired a white police officer accused of using a racial slur to taunt Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford, saying the officer had "brought discredit" on himself and the department.
"You have demonstrated through your racist comments that you cannot continue as a patrol officer," Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella wrote in his termination notice to officer John Perrault.
Mazzarella's decision comes a day after Police Chief Robert Healey recommended during a disciplinary hearing that the mayor fire Perrault, saying he'd used racial slurs at least twice before.
Perrault's attorney, Joseph Sandulli, said his client would either appeal through the civil service commission or file a grievance through the police union. Sandulli said Perrault didn't intend the word as a racist insult and the city overreacted.
"He was criticizing Crawford for being a bad player, not because he was a black man," Sandulli said.
A Red Sox spokeswoman said the team would have no comment on the decision.
Perrault had been on paid leave since he called Crawford a "Monday" before a July 5 minor league game in Manchester, N.H.
The word can be used as a derogatory term for blacks, and is often associated with Mondays being one of the most-hated days of the week, such as in the common phrase, "I hate Mondays."
http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/8202374/cop-fired-slurring-carl-crawford-boston-red-sox
I am going to bet that 99.9% of the population did not know that calling a person "Monday" is a racist term.  Of course, many times I have said "I hate Mondays" and "Mondays suck" and no one ever said that was a racist term.
On the other hand, if I said "I love Fridays", does that mean I love "whites"?
This is just plain stupid.
So, watch out, if you say "I hate Mondays", you can get fired, especially in Leominster, MA.

Information On Hutterite Colonies In Central Montana

I found this web site on the different Hutterite Colonies in Central Montana, where the King Colony is located.  Each Colony wrote up a small piece about their colony, including the King Ranch, which is what the story of American Colony Meet the Hutterites comes from.
When you read it, it is obvious that it was written before the show was an idea.
Here is the web site: http://www.enjoylewistown.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6&Itemid=7
It's an interesting read and it also has the King Colony address on it, in case you wanted to write them.

Floyd Mayweather Wants Pen Pals While In Jail?

This just doesn't seem like a good idea, from Norm of the LVRJ:
Rapper 50 Cent joined Shantel Jackson, the fiancee of Floyd Mayweather Jr., at her birthday party Wednesday night at N9NE Steakhouse at the Palms.
She appears with 50 Cent in the upcoming film, "Freelancers," which stars Robert De Niro and Forest Whitaker. The rap star is one of the producers of the crime drama, which is due out in September.
Jackson recently tweeted that Mayweather, who has been serving an 87-day sentence in the Clark County Detention Center since June 1, wants pen pals. She said letters should be sent to: ID# 01363917, Clark County Detention Center, 330 S. Casino Center Blvd., Las Vegas NV 89101.
 http://www.lvrj.com/news/jailed-boxer-s-fiancee-celebrates-birthday-163825396.html
This just seems like this is inviting trouble as many of the people who write Mayweather will try and get something in return, like his money or be part of his entourage.
Also, by the time people write him and he gets the letters, he will be out or close to being released from jail.

Kinky But Deadly

From the Baltimore Sun : Attorney Seth Williams couldn't get over the strange sequence of events that led to the murder arrest this week of the so-called Black Madam, a transgender gothic hip-hop artist who's accused of performing illegal buttocks injections at airport hotels and at "pumping parties" in the city.
"It almost sounds silly, these facts and this fact pattern," Williams said. "It sounds ludicrous, but as ludicrous as it is, it's very tragic."
Late Monday night, the Black Madam, whose legal name is Padge Windslowe, was charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and related offenses in the Feb. 7 death of 20-year-old British tourist Claudia Aderotimi.
After waiting more than a year for test results from the Food and Drug Administration, Delaware County Medical Examiner Fredric N. Hellman finally ruled Monday that Aderotimi had died of a pulmonary embolism that resulted from an illegal buttocks injection of silicone that police allege Windslowe, 42, administered to Aderotimi at the Hampton Inn Philadelphia-International Airport hotel. The case went to Hellman because Aderotimi died at a Delaware County hospital.
Windslowe was a suspect in the case from the beginning, but police and prosecutors wanted to await the findings from Hellman's office before bringing charges. In the interim, police allege, Windslowe brazenly continued her deadly trade. On March 1, she was arrested for allegedly having injected a 23-year-old exotic dancer at a February "butt-pumping party" in West Philadelphia. That woman suffered severe complications when particles of silicone that had been injected into her buttocks traveled to her lungs. Windslowe was charged with aggravated assault and related offenses in that case and has remained incarcerated since her arrest. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/sns-mct-murder-charges-filed-against-black-madam-in-20120725,0,6537344.story
Call me naive, but  I never heard of a butt-pumping party.
Except of the party, this is similar to a couple of cases in Las Vegas where fake doctors would inject silicone they buy from the hardware store into mostly illegal immigrant's butt's.  One woman tragically died from a butt injection last year after she went to a fake doctor who had his office in the back of a tile store.
So, I guess there are gullible people everywhere who engage in getting butt injections and people willing to cash in on these gullible people stupidity.  And this creature in Philadelphia got $1000 an injection.

Sick: Dog Killed, Tagged With Grafitti

From the Detroit Free Press: The Michigan Humane Society is offering a $2,500 reward for information in the death of a black pit bull terrier found in northwest Detroit with rope tied around its neck and letters spray-painted on its body.
Humane Society cruelty investigators are looking into what caused the dog's death and are awaiting necropsy results, according to a news release. The dog was found late last week in the 19100 block of St. Marys, near 7 Mile and Greenfield.
Humane Society officials said the rope was tied tightly around the dog's neck, with no other discernible injuries. The letters "PBS" were spray-painted in white on the dog's left side, with other marks painted on the dog's back, sides and legs, the Humane Society said.  http://www.freep.com/article/20120726/NEWS01/307260260/Reward-offered-after-dog-found-dead-covered-in-graffiti?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|s
While it would be tempting to say that Big Bird or Elmo had a part of it (the PBS tag), it obviously is a sick person who did this and hopefully, they will find the thug and prosecute them, if possible.

Obama Administration Out To Kill Another Business

From the Chicago Tribune: Federal safety officials filed a lawsuit Wednesday demanding a recall of magnetic desk toys marketed to adults, citing serious injuries to children who have ingested pieces of the product.
The rare administrative complaint from the Consumer Product Safety Commission also demands that the manufacturer of Buckyballs, New York-based Maxfield & Oberton, stop selling the product and alert consumers that it is defective. http://www.chicagotribune.com/site/newspaper/news/ct-nw-cpsc-sues-magnet-maker-20120726,0,7592986.story
And the company responds: Maxfield & Oberton, which according to the complaint imports the tiny magnets from China, issued a statement titled "Thank you for trying to drive a $50 million New York-based consumer product company out of business."
"We are not sure why the CPSC wants to ban magnets," spokesman Andrew Frank said Wednesday. "We have been working with the agency for two years on outreach and education and to make sure the labels are correct, so we were surprised by this."
The agency confirmed that it has been working with the company, starting with a 2010 recall aimed at getting the product back from consumers younger than 14 and adding labels that warn against buying Buckyballs for children. In November, the two entities worked together on an education campaign involving social media, public service announcements and online warnings.
The problem is not the magnets or the Buckyballs.  The problem is stupid parents who don't look after their kids.  If the parents watched their children and have the Buckyballs out of reach of the small kids, then how many problems would you have?  Maybe 0?
Once again, the Obama administration is trying to put people out of work.  Thanks Obama.

Obama: Stricter Gun Control for Peasants

Well, that was quick.  The other day, right after the Colorado Theater tragedy, Obama said that he is not in favor of restricting gun ownership.
But to the Urban League, he sings a different tune: From the Chicago Tribune: President Obama vowed Wednesday night to “leave no stone unturned” in seeking ways to curb the growing challenge of violence in American cities, including reasonable restrictions on gun ownership.
The president offered his most extensive comments in some time on the issue of gun control in a speech to the National Urban League, which came at the end of a four-day trip that began in Colorado, where he met with victims of the movie theater shooting that claimed a dozen lives. After that meeting, he reflected on the lives affected by the shooting, but did not suggest a refreshed attempt to restrict gun ownership...

Acknowledging sensitivity of the issue, he said he nonetheless believes that even gun owners would agree “that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of children.” He offered no specific proposals but referred to background checks to prevent criminals and fugitives from purchasing weapons, and preventing guns from getting into the hands of the mentally unbalanced. Previous efforts to do the same have been thwarted by political opposition and the reluctance of sympathetic elected officials to take on the National Rifle Assn., among the nation’s most potent lobbying forces.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-obama-talks-guns-at-urban-league,0,7824511.story
For disclosure: I am not a gun owner, my knowledge of guns is pretty limited and I have no interest in owning a gun.
First, the AK 47 reference is pretty stupid since the U.S. military does not use AK 47's.- it's a Russian made gun and the AK 47 for sale for the public is not the same that is used in the military.  For the public, it is sold as a semi automatic and for military, it is an automatic rifle.
Aside from Obama's stupidity on the AK 47, as liberal, he just doesn't understand crime.  The gun is not the criminal it is the person holding the gun or other weapon.  The criminal is going to get a gun illegally and then use it for illegal methods.  The only people hurt are the law abiding people.
Then, it is the culture of crime.  When you have gangs, drug dealers and other violent criminals, especially in the inner cities, you need to change the culture of these criminals.  How do you do it?  A lot of peer pressure, stop the no-snitching policy in the hood and have true leaders who actually care about the inner cities.
Obviously, Obama is one of the leaders who doesn't care about the crime in the inner cities along with poverty and other problems associated with crime.  Drugs problems?  Obama is/was a heavy pot smoker and doesn't think it was a big deal.  Poverty?  His policies have put more people into poverty than any other president.  Crime?  He never talks about except now.  Cares about the inner city?  Nope, he avoids the inner city like the plague.
So, until we have true leadership, and the current administrators, from Obama, down to Eric Holder to Janet Napalitano are not leaders. They are excuse makers and that is not what we need to help solve the problems of crime.  Until they are eliminated from power in this next election, there will be no hope for the victims of crimes.

Which State Is Number 2 In Oil Production In U.S.?

From the Havre Daily News: A new study says North Dakota's oil production could jump more than threefold by 2025 to more than 2 million barrels a day.
The study released Wednesday by Bentek Energy LLC of Colorado also says natural gas production could more than quintuple by 2025 in the Williston Basin. The basin includes the Dakotas and Montana.
Natural gas is a byproduct of oil production in North Dakota, which is the nation's No. 2 oil producer behind Texas.
About a third of the natural gas produced in North Dakota is wasted because there aren't enough pipelines to carry it to markets.
State Pipeline Authority director Justin Kringstad says the study estimates future gas production and the number of facilities and pipelines needed to process and transport the fuel.
http://www.havredailynews.com/cms/news/studyndoiloutputmayjumpthreefoldby2025.html
Too bad we waste so much natural gas because of the lack of pipelines.  Hmm, you think it might be a good idea to build some more natural gas pipelines?
It will put people to work and help the environment.
Nah, especially with Obama as president, it will not happen.

Obama Can't Catch A Break: Food Prices To Rise Before Election

From the New York Times: Scorching heat and the worst drought in nearly a half-century are threatening to send food prices up, spooking consumers and leading to worries about global food costs.
On Wednesday, the government said it expected the record-breaking weather to drive up the price for groceries next year, including milk, beef, chicken and pork. The drought is now affecting 88 percent of the corn crop, a staple of processed foods and animal feed as well as the nation’s leading farm export.
The government’s forecast, based on a consumer price index for food, estimated that prices would rise 4 to 5 percent for beef next year with slightly lower increases for pork, eggs and dairy products.
Poor President Obama, just can't catch a break.  Earlier this year, it was rumored that gas prices would got to $5 a gallon but that probably won't happen.
But now, food prices are going to rise because of the drought and nothing can be done to prevent it.
Oh wait, our dependence on Ethanol, which uses tons of corn and other ingredients, can be curtailed, freeing up the corn to feed the cattle and other animals.  (Sweet corn is not used for ethanol)
But nah, Ethanol is more important than food, I guess.  And if corn is going effect food prices, it will also effect gas prices.
It's the economy, stupid, and it ain't breaking well for Obama.

Rubio Going Where Coward In Chief Won't Go

Marco Rubio, as shown in the post below, is going to visit Las Vegas on Saturday and he is going to an area that our coward commander in chief will not go.
Rubio will be going to Ronnow Elementary School, which is located at 1100 Lana Ln.  Lana Ln. is located near Pecos and Washington.  For those of us from Las Vegas, we know that the area by Pecos and Washington is not a nice area of town.  There is a lot of crime and poverty.  In the last 60 days, there have close to 300 police incidents, per Metro's Crime View and that doesn't include a portion of North Las Vegas, which adds more incidents to the 300.  I also know this area very well, as I work only a few blocks from the school and know many of the people who live there.  I also know the struggles the area is going through.
As I have shown in the past that our coward in chief refuses to go into inner city areas.  Obama has been to Las Vegas numerous times in the past couple of years and he has not come close to a high crime, high poverty area.  Obama goes to places like Henderson, the Strip and by Las Vegas High School, all areas which are middle to high income areas.  I might add that Hillary Clinton had the balls, so to speak, to speak at another school in the area in 2008.
So, congratulations to Marco Rubio for going to a place where our coward in chief will not go.

Rubio Practicing To Be Vice President Candidate?

Marco Rubio is coming to town to audition for the vice presidential job in the Romney administration.
From the LVRJ: U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio is returning to his Las Vegas roots on Saturday to rally support for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney at a grade school the rising Hispanic political star attended as a child.
The Southern Nevada stop at Ronnow Elementary School will be Rubio's first solo campaign trip for Romney, who has put the conservative Republican on his list of potential vice presidential running mates.
The public is invited to the 9:30 a.m. rally, although free tickets are limited to several hundred because of space. People can register for tickets online at http://rubiovictoryrally.eventbrite.com/ the campaign said Wednesday.
Rubio. R-Fla., may help Romney attract more Hispanic support in the Silver State, where Latinos could make the difference in the White House race. Four years ago, President Barack Obama got three-quarters of the Hispanic vote here for the win. A recent poll by Latino Decisions shows him up 69-20 over Romney in Nevada among Hispanics.
Cecilia Aldana, president of Nevada Hispanics, a newly formed conservative group, said Rubio will be able to connect to the Latino community and better explain GOP views on immigration and the economy.
"We need to start talking and be serious about the reality of what's affecting the community," Aldana said, adding it's important the "conservative movement" reaches Hispanics. "Rubio is extremely effective.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/rubio-returns-to-roots-will-rally-in-las-vegas-163800936.html
Considering that a moldy sandwich  would be an improvement over Joe Biden who has been a complete disgrace as a vice president and American.  Biden is a liar, cheat, slanderer and stupid as hell.  He is the worst of the worst politicians.
So, good luck to Rubio in his audition.
Update:  Apparently, Rubio is returning to his old Elementary School: From ABC News:  A source with knowledge of the events told ABC News Rubio will campaign for Romney at a rally at Rubio’s old elementary school in Las Vegas, Nevada, Saturday followed by a rally in Denver, Colorado, later that day. Rubio also will participate in finance events for Romney while in the area.

The Olympics Started Today

Did you notice?

Maybe It's Me, But...

George HW Bush Picture
But Doesn't Mitt Romney and George H.W. Bush sound the same when they talk?
Just as long as Romney doesn't say "Read my lips, No New Taxes".

Cool

From the Las Vegas Sun:  Casino giant Caesars Entertainment says it has obtained a key county permit allowing it to build the world's tallest observation wheel in a planned retail, dining and entertainment complex on the Las Vegas Strip.
The proposed wheel would stand 550 feet tall. It would be higher than the nearly 443-foot London Eye and the 541-foot Singapore Flyer, and taller than a 500-foot wheel being built across the Strip from the Mandalay Bay resort. That one is called SkyVue.
Caesars officials on Tuesday called the amusement and transportation system permit a crucial step toward opening the so-called "High Roller" attraction next year.
The Ferris-style wheel is part of a planned $550 million development on the Strip near the company's Harrah's Las Vegas, Imperial Palace and Flamingo Las Vegas casinos.
 http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/jul/25/us-vegas-strip-wheels/
No, you won't find me riding the Ferris Wheel but I am sure a lot of people will.
Is it me, or are these observation wheels now a new fad around the world?
It's also nice that Caesars and other Strip and downtown properties are making a huge investment in the area.  They must believe that better times are ahead.

Nevada Bad For Kids? What A Bunch Of BS

Today, a report came out that said that Nevada is bad for kids, so bad, in fact, that it ranks 48 in the country.  What a bunch of BS.
From the LVRJ: Nevada's ranking for public education has hit rock bottom, according to a new national study on children's well-being.
The Silver State was ranked 50th in the nation despite improvements in key areas, such as the percentage of fourth-graders reading at grade level and eighth-graders who are proficient in math.
Education was one of four indicators used to determine children's overall well-being in the Kids Count national report to be released today . Nevada ranked 49th among the states for children's economic well-being and 46th in health. It ranked 41st in family and community issues such as teen births and children living in poverty.
Nevada's overall standing fell eight spots to 48th in the nation, according to the evaluation system, which was revamped this year to make it more "well-rounded, truer," said Stephen Brown, executive director of Nevada Kids Count.
"Basically, it's a more accurate reflection of what it's like to be a child in Nevada," he said.
The only states with overall standings that fell below Nevada are New Mexico and Mississippi, according to the findings, which showed that about one in four Nevada children live in poverty.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/report-puts-state-last-in-education-163664676.html
First, I want to get rid of the myth that Nevada has a bad education system- it's not great, but it's not horrible.
To graduate from high school, you need to be proficient in reading, writing, math and science and you have to pass tests in those areas.  If you pass the tests and classes, you graduate.  If you don't pass the tests, you get a certificate of attendance.  If you are a special education student, you get and an adjusted diploma ( an adjusted diploma means you you don't graduate and it holds down the graduation rate of the school and district)  Many states don't require this amount of testing to graduate.
Many of the problems with students not passing their classes and drop out have nothing to do with school.  We have a high number of students who move throughout the year, we have a very large number of students who don't speak or write English very well and we have a high number of illegal immigrants that we are forced to educate.  If you don't speak or read English very well in high school, what chance do you hve of graduating high school?
I work in an inner city high school and I see how hard teachers and administrators work to get kids to school and to educate them but if the kids aren't willing to learn or their family doesn't care about education, then there is not a lot that you can do.  But if a kid wants to get educated, then they will get a decent education in CCSD and Nevada.
Of course, we can change the way we graduate kids and graduate everyone, but that doesn't make the kids any any smarter.
A lot of kids live below the poverty rate.  Yep, and that explains why they have cell phones, MP3 players and wear very nice clothes.  Are some kids dirt poor?  Of course, just like in every city and town in the U.S., but they find a way to get by.
We also have a lot of good things for kids to do here.  We have neighborhood community centers in which kids can come and play and they also offer day care.  After school programs for kids are abundant, especially in elementary school with Safe Key.  We have a great park system, lots of areas to hike and ride bikes and most apartment complexes have swimming pools.  We have a pretty good library system, we have classes that kids can get into and so much more.  You also can take a day vacation to the mountains, to Lake Mead (in the winter, you can go skiing in the morning and boating/swimming at night), visit the Strip and Fremont St., (where they have museums, animals and fish), movie theaters, shows etc.  So, if a kid is bored, it's pretty much their own fault.
Every large city and most small towns have problems.  Las Vegas and Nevada are no different than these places, but we have some pointy headed nimrods who have to justify their employment, so they come up with some crack head survey and make up statistics.  Then the paper runs to these so called experts who then say the sky is falling, the sky is falling and we need more money and we need more money.  (and for those states at the top of the survey, they will cry that they need more money to stay at the top of the survey)
These surveys are all about money and getting more money for their cause, nothing more, nothing less- just follow the money trail.

So, How Much Do The Pawn Stars Get Paid?

So, you wonder, how much do the Pawn Stars get paid per episode?
From Norm of the LVRJ: The arrival of Chumlee and his pals created a buzz along the cul-de-sac that has long been the home of many of the city's most prominent families. Developer Jerry Mack, who lived there, built the estates more than 40 years ago. It was the city's first private gated community.
So many luxury cars, including Chum's black Rolls-Royce, were parked outside the mansion that one neighbor guessed the rigs were worth more $1 million. Chumlee reportedly receives $25,000 per episode for the show, which has been extended another four seasons, or 80 episodes.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/-pawn-star-chumlee-vacating-mansion-163665706.html
My guess, that after 3 or 4 episodes, that probably was Rick and the Old Man's salary before the show and with Chumlee, probably 1 episode.
Good for them, though, glad they are now an evil 1%er.

Voter fraud, What Voter Fraud?

From Fox News: Voter fraud has a shocking new meaning in eastern Kentucky.
That is where in some cases, major cocaine and marijuana dealers admitted to buying votes to steal elections, and the result is the corruption of American democracy. The government continues to mete out justice in the scandal, as two people convicted in April in a vote-buying case face sentencing this week, and another public official pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy.
"We believe that drug money did buy votes," Kerry B. Harvey, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, said of a separate vote-buying case.
He described a stunning vote-buying scheme that includes "very extensive, organized criminal activity, involving hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in many cases that involves drug money."
Harvey has led a recent string of federal prosecutions exposing the widespread and accepted practice of vote buying in eastern Kentucky. The soft-spoken federal prosecutor, along with his team and state authorities, are waging a battle against what he characterizes as a vote-buying culture embedded in many of the communities for generations.
He says the problem is rooted in economic woes, which is why votes are routinely for sale. In that part of the state, jobs are scarce and poverty is high. Controlling local government means controlling jobs.  Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/07/25/drug-money-funds-voter-fraud-in-kentucky/#ixzz21evz76wW
In this case, voter ID probably would not have worked, however, these cases also undermine Democrats and liberal clams that there is not voter fraud going on.
I am sure this is not the only place in the country this is going on, these people were just stupid enough and brazen enough to get caught.
But we have seen, especially in Wisconsin this past year, that buying votes does happen- though sometimes it's not cash that buys the vote.  Maybe it's food, or cigarettes or lunches.  In Las Vegas, the Culinary unions would bring their members down, give them lunches and then watch their members vote, or collude with management into forcing their workers to vote.
http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2010/11/time-to-boycott-harrahs-and-their.html
So, voter fraud does exist and my guess it will be rampant in the this years presidential elections in swing states.

Before Clobal Warmer Believers Ge Carried Away...

From the Sacramento Bee: In a scant four days this month, the surface of Greenland's ice sheet melted to an extent not witnessed in 30 years of satellite observations, NASA reported Tuesday.
On average, about half of the surface of the ice sheet melts during the summer. But from July 8 to July 12, the ice melt expanded from 40 percent of the ice sheet to 97 percent, according to scientists who analyzed the data from satellites deployed by NASA and India's space research institute.
''I started looking at the satellite imagery and saw something that was really unprecedented" since the advent of satellite imaging of the earth's frozen surface, or cryosphere, said Thomas L. Mote, a climate scientist at the University of Georgia who for 20 years has been studying ice changes on Greenland detected by satellite.
While scientists described it as an "extreme event" not previously recorded from space, they hastened to add that it was normal in a broader historical context.
Ice core samples taken from the summit of Greenland's ice sheet that shed light on 10,000 years of its history show that a similar large-scale melting event has happened roughly every 150 years, said Lora Koenig, a glaciologist with NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center who has also studied the satellite imagery. Because the previous vast melt occurred in 1889, this year's is more or less on schedule, she said.

In the next few days, global warming/climate change/Kool Aid drinkers will be spouting that the ice in Greenland is melting and it is because of global warming/climate change.  They will forget to mention the part about that this is a normal occurring process.
But you will know.

Tread Mill Inventor Dies

From the LA Daily News: William Staub, who took the treadmill - that ubiquitous piece of exercise equipment that is loved and loathed by millions - into homes and gyms, has died. He was 96 and had been spied on a treadmill as recently as two months ago.
He died Thursday at his home in Clifton, N.J., his son Gerald said.
Staub, a mechanical engineer, built and marketed his first treadmill in the late 1960s - 40 steel rollers covered by an orange belt, a gray cover over the motor, and orange dials to determine time and speed. Staub envisioned it as a tool for people who wanted to run or walk outside but didn't because of inclement weather, less-than-ideal circumstances or creative excuses, his son said.
At the time, the treadmill was almost exclusively used by doctors, said Dr. Kenneth Cooper, a health and fitness pioneer who used the machine to perform stress tests. William Staub, who didn't exercise at the time, read Cooper's 1968 book "Aerobics," which espoused the health benefits of exercise.
"Dr. Cooper said if you ran a mile in 8 minutes and did it four to five times a week, you would always be in a good fitness category," Gerald Staub said. "He said even I - no excuses - I can afford 8 minutes. That's what excited him about it."  http://www.dailynews.com/health/ci_21150296/developer-loved-and-loathed-home-treadmill-dies-at
Also dying yesterday, besides Sherman Hensley, was Chad Everett of Medical Center, a 1970's TV show.
Chad Everett, the blue-eyed star of the 1970s TV series “Medical Center” who went on to appear in such films and TV shows as “Mulholland Drive” and “Melrose Place,” has died. He was 75.
Everett’s daughter, Katherine Thorp, said he died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles after a year-and-a-half-long battle with lung cancer.
Everett played sensitive surgeon Joe Gannon for seven seasons on “Medical Center.” The role earned him Golden Globe nominations in 1971 and 1973.
With a career spanning more than 40 years, Everett guest starred on such TV series as “The Love Boat,” ‘’Murder, She Wrote” and “Without a Trace.” Everett most recently appeared on the TV shows “Castle” and “Supernatural,” where he appeared as an older version of Jensen Ackles’ character Dean Winchester.

More Voter Fraud

From the Orange County Register: Two students who were declared the winners of Troy High School's top student political offices in April will not assume their posts this fall, after one of the candidates broke into a school database and discovered the election was rigged by the school's ASB faculty adviser.Jenny Redmond, a Troy special-education teacher, has resigned as ASB adviser. Troy senior Jacob Bigham, who revealed that the candidates named ASB president and ASB vice president weren't the top vote-getters, received a five-day suspension and was stripped of his ASB office, he said.
The actual winner of the Associated Student Body presidency, senior Ryan Daliwal, will assume Troy's top student post when school begins Aug. 27. Bigham, who ran for and won the ASB vice presidency, will not be allowed to take office; second-place finisher Taylor Kang will be ASB vice president for 2012-13.
"No one is empowered to change what the students vote," George Giokaris, superintendent for the Fullerton Joint Union High School District, said in an interview. "There's no question it's unacceptable and that message was conveyed. She overstepped her authority."
But Troy students remain outraged by the school's handling of the matter, noting that while Bigham received a five-day suspension immediately after coming forward with allegations of ASB election fraud on April 23, Redmond continued teaching the ASB leadership class for the remainder of the school year.
"The implications of what I did vs. what she did are not on par with each other," said Bigham, 17, of Buena Park, who was stripped of his post as ASB secretary after exposing the scandal. "I feel changing the results of an election has far more gravity than finding out by whatever means that someone did that."

What sucks is the student who discovered the rigged election is suspended for 5 days and the teacher who fixed the election got got nothing in terms of punishment.

More Riots In Anaheim

From the Orange County Register: Police continued to battle "pockets of unrest" in downtown Anaheim late Tuesday night, hours after a large crowd attempting to get inside City Hall broke out into violent protest.About 20 minutes before Tuesday's 5 p.m. City Council meeting, a 200-strong crowd tried to get inside packed City Hall.
They were rebuffed by police officers who cited fire standards and would not let anyone else into the crowded council chambers, where the council held its regular meeting and talked about what the crowd was upset about: two police shootings over the weekend.
A half-dozen officers blocked City Hall's entrance, while the crowd gathered around and hurled obscenities. As the crowd pressed closer, the officers with helmets and batons came out the front door and pushed the protesters back, angering them.
After several minutes, some protesters called for everyone to hit the street.
For the next five-hours-plus, the tug-of-war between protesters and police persisted.
The crowd marched along Anaheim Boulevard to Lincoln Avenue, going into the street and blocking traffic.
Some pounded traffic signs and pulled trash cans into the street, while others pulled back the cans. One man with a bullhorn shouted how the protest was to be peaceful. A boy spray-painted a utility box. Some protesters grabbed sand from flower beds and a traffic cone and threw them at officers.

They are angry about 2 police shootings that happened over the weekend.  One thug was shot after took shots at the cops.  In the other case:
Earlier in the day, the Anaheim Police Association said that the Anaheim officer who fired a fatal shot at an unarmed man this weekend saw some kind of object in the man's waistband and feared it was a weapon.
The association's account, and a $50 million lawsuit filed by the man's mother, offered new details about the shooting that killed 25-year-old Manuel Angel Diaz. An attorney for Diaz's mother said he was shot in the back, then fell to his knees and was shot again in the head.
Police have described Diaz as a known gang member and said he fled on foot down a residential alleyway when officers approached him on Saturday afternoon. They have declined to speak in any more detail about what led to the shooting.
The next day, an Anaheim gang officer shot and killed another man, Joel Mathew Acevedo, 21, in an unrelated incident. Police also described Acevedo as a known gang member and said he opened fire on officers during a foot chase.
Anybody planning on going to Disneyland in the next few days may want to reconsider.

Buh Bye A.J. Allmendinger

From ESPN: Sprint Cup driver AJ Allmendinger went from temporarily to indefinitely suspended on Tuesday when results of his "B" sample urine test supported the original that violated NASCAR's substance-abuse policy.
Sam Hornish Jr., who has driven the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge the past two Sprint Cup races, will again be in the car this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and for the next race at Pocono.
Allmendinger was frustrated with the test results and undecided on what his next step will be, his business manager Tara Ragan told SiriusXM NASCAR radio Tuesday night.
"Everybody who knows AJ, (knows) this is his life. This is all that he's done is race cars and racing," Ragan said. "Everything he does just about every single day is geared toward that. The answer is not well. I think all of us have had these moments of anger, frustration, sad over and over the last couple of weeks trying to get to the bottom of this, trying to figure what we do, what we do next and that's kind of what we're working on tonight and tomorrow and working through that with our race team and with NASCAR to figure out the next steps.''
Allmendinger has two options: He can enter NASCAR's Road to Recovery program that must be completed to be eligible for re-instatement or seek legal action in hopes of discrediting the test to gain re-instatement.
Allmendinger, through Ragan, claimed he didn't knowingly take a banned substance that was described as a stimulant that could have come from a supplement or over-the-counter drug.
A stimulant is defined in NASCAR's drug policy as "amphetamine, methamphetamine, Ecstasy (MDMA), Eve (MDEA), MDA, PMA, Phentermine, and other amphetamine derivatives and related compounds."

Allmendiner seems like a good guy and I have a feeling he took something that he didn't know the ingredients or another possibility, someone sabotaged him.
This is almost a death sentence for him in NASCAR.  He may be able to find a ride in Indy car or ARCA and perhaps, work his way up back to NASCAR, but that will take a long time.

Sadly, I Don't Feel Sorry For Ellis Island

From the Las Vegas Sun:
Metro Police are continuing the search for a suspect after an early morning armed robbery at the Ellis Island Casino, just off the Las Vegas strip.
The robbery occurred at 1:52 a.m. at the casino, 4178 Koval Lane, said Metro spokesman Officer Jose Hernandez. The suspect entered the casino with a firearm, walked to a cashier’s window and robbed the teller, Hernandez said.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/jul/24/ellis-island-casino-robbed-suspect-still--large/
After my dining experience at Ellis Island, I really don't feel sorry for Ellis Island, the business.  I feel for the workers, but not the company.

More Disgusting/Biased Reporting From KTNV, Channel 13

When I started watching Channel 13 here in Las Vegas several years ago, they used to be middle of the road reporters who would just give you the news and if necessary, they gave both sides of an issue.
Lately, however, they are taking a more liberal bent towards the news and sometimes, like tonight, they go off the deep end in liberal bias.  From Channel 13:
Tonight, they report that the ACLU is looking for people to complain about the Metro police deportment.
From Channel 13: A group of civil rights advocates want to hear from people who feel they've been mistreated by Metro police.
Mitchell Crooks was beaten by a cop for videotaping a burglary investigation across the street from his home near Desert Inn and Maryland Parkway. Erik Scott was shot and killed at a Costco in Summerlin. Both Caucasian men. Civil rights advocates say they're not Metro's usual suspects in officer-involved shootings, or accusations of excessive use of force.
"I can't say whether there's a conscious racial bias, but certainly the evidence reveals a disproportionate impact on minority populations, and that's just brought out by the data," Staci Pratt with the ACLU said.
http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/163644116.html
Of course, the first two examples Channel 13 uses to prove abuse are white males.  Not exactly showing racial bias, are we, Channel 13.
And while the article doesn't say it, the ACLU went to a Hispanic meeting place and will next go to a meeting place for Blacks.  Gee, I wonder if they will prove racial bias at these two locations?
Also, in the video Channel 13 uses but not posted yet, they use a fatal Metro police shooting of Rafael Alonso Olivas and the video featured his crying and wailing mother.  Channel 13 used this case as a case of police brutality.  Well, let's look at this case from the Las Vegas Sun:
Police responded at 6:46 a.m. to the report of a domestic disturbance on Musical Lane near the intersection of Firestone Drive and Westcliff Drive. That location is southwest of the Buffalo Drive and Summerlin Parkway interchange.
Metro Police Capt. Patrick Neville said a woman reported she was having an argument with her son and that he was out of control.
Police arrived and found a man with a butcher knife walking southbound on Firestone Drive. Neville said the man approached officers after authorities made several commands for him to stop.
The officers then discharged non-lethal rounds at the man, striking him four times, in an attempt to get him to stop, but the man continued toward officers with the knife, Neville said.
"Officers feared for their lives," he said.
The three officers then fired multiple shots at the man, who was pronounced dead at University Medical Center. Neville said he didn't know how close the officers were to the man when they opened fire.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/jul/14/metro-police-involved-shooting-western-valley/
So, you have a guy, who is so out of control that his mother has to call 911 for the cops to handle her boy.  Then this thug, armed with knives refuses to drop the knives and the cops try 4 times to disarm him with non-lethal means (bean bag shot gun?).  Then the thugs starts running at the cops and the cops have no choice but to shoot him because the cops are scared for their safety.
And so, Channel 13 uses this example as a case for police brutality?  Seriously KTNV, this is police brutality?
Just another example of Channel 13 going off the deep end and ending up in a dung heap of  liberal media bias.
