Wisconsin Union To United Way: Screw You!

From the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune: "The Wood County and Vicinity Central Labor Council announced today it is not supporting the United Way of Inner Wisconsin as a result of a dispute about its vacant community service liaison position.
A newly proposed agreement between the two entities set wages for the part-time liaison position at $10 an hour and 30 hours a week for a total annual salary of $15,600, said Ron Holden, Central Labor Council president.
“We cannot enter into a partnership with a job that is not a living wage,” Holden said. “I do encourage all of our members to continue to give to other charitable organizations in our community.” http://www.wisconsinrapidstribune.com/article/20100813/WRT0101/100813083/Unions-withdraw-support-from-local-United-Way

So, the union throws a hissy fit because someone is only going to be paid $10 for a part time job. So, in retaliation, they say to the United Way and it's people that the serve "screw you!!"
To the people that receive services from the United way in central Wood County, and that includes people with mental and physical disabilities, the homeless, the poor and and other organizations, the union says to you with glee "screw you".
And how much should a person in Wisconsin Rapids (the town I lived in before I moved) be paid for a part time job and make it a living wage?
I also wonder, when the Unions were picketing Wal-Mart, many years ago, how much the union paid their picketers- a living wage? Somehow, I doubt it.
Just another example of union thugs trying to throw their weight around.

  1. Actually, I never gave to the united way. I give directly to the charity of MY choice, without a middle man skimming off part of it.

But I guess profiteering off of charity is OK with you conservatives, eh?

  2. Umm, capper, I think you are thinking too much on this one.
Actually many conservatives don't like United Way. First the hard nose tatics they use to get donations and they also give to organizations that support abortion, directly and indirectly.
I have never given to the United Way either. I'd rather donate my time and if neccassary, money to my charities.

  3. I feel the same way about the United Way. They skim way too much from the donations. I've become very fond of the American Institute for Philanthropy's charity rating guide (whatever cause you want to support, it helps you find organizations that spend most of your donation on the actual programs rather than fundraising and administration).

  4. I am against the union in this matter- they are holding a charity hostage along with the agencies they support.
56 people applied for this job- apparently they thought the job was pretty good.
Sometimes you have to side with the least evil party.

  5. First, capper, the problem is not the union is not contributing, they are asking for a boycott of United way- there is a big difference. If a union just said, we are not contributing, that would be one thing- that's their money. But when they call for a boycott, that's totally different.
