Government Waste- What A Shock

From The Washington Examiner: The Examiner's Friday editorial was written before the news broke that in 2009 Washington sent nearly 72,000 economic stimulus checks worth $250 each to people certified as eligible by the Social Security Administration. Problem was, all of those folks receiving checks totaling more than $18 billion were ... dead. But wait, there's more! Another 17,900 economic stimulus checks went to prison inmates. Now, dead people and prison inmates don't do much to create new jobs or spark economic growth, so why did federal officials managing President Obama's $814 billion economic stimulus put all those checks in the mail? ...
Then there is the Home Affordable Modification Program program. The HAMP effort was Obama's chief response to the millions of foreclosures that have plagued the economy since the Great Recession of 2008. Obama promised that HAMP would provide up to four million desperate homeowners a way to modify the terms of their mortgages, so that they could keep their homes. The result, according to Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., is that HAMP "has underperformed projections by 96 percent." That Issa is not merely mouthing a partisan criticism is seen in California Democratic Rep. Jackie Spier's verdict on HAMP: "It has failed, and it has failed miserably.
Their conclusion: These are not isolated examples. The factor common among the three is that each illustrates the inability of the federal government to solve problems when it grows beyond its constitutional limits. This trio is among a depressingly long list of similar examples of the failure of Big Government. The Founders recognized that there are things only the federal government can do, and other things that ought to be reserved to state and local government, or to the people.Read more at the Washington Examiner: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/Checks-to-dead-people-and-other-government-fiascoes-1155183-104599074.html#ixzz11vVayJTH
The Democrats believe that government is the solution to the country's problems. Harry Reid and Dina Titus firmly believes this and that is why he rips Sharron Angle about the government creating jobs and Dina Titus rips Dr. Joe Heck. But the fact is that the government can help create jobs, sometimes. They do it by creating incentives, cutting taxes, reducing regulations within reason and keeping politics out of the private sector. They don't create private sector jobs by throwing billions of dollars of stimulus money that help support government union jobs. They also don't create jobs by sending thousands of stimulus money to inmates and dead people. There doesn't seem to be an employment problem in prison canteens and the dead really don't the time to go to Wal-Mart to buy a big screen TV. They probably more things on their mind. Like if they are going to heaven or hell and if there is a God or not.
