In the worst held secret in Nevada, Gov. Brian Sandoval appointed Dean Heller to replace John Ensign as Nevada's Junior (in years, not intelligence)U.S. Senator. The appointment begins next week and Heller will have to run for re-election in 2012.
Of course, the Dem's called for Ensign to resign with their fingers crossed behind their backs. They had hoped that this would be an election year issue. Harry Reid is still trying to make an election year issue by saying that the Senate Ethics Committee (talk about an oxymoron) still has an obligation to further conduct the ethics complaint. From the LVRJ: Sen. Harry Reid said Wednesday the Senate Ethics Committee is "obligated" to issue the findings of its investigation of Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., and to refer potential criminal violations to the Department of Justice.
Reid, the Senate majority leader from Nevada, was traveling in China last week when Ensign announced he was resigning his Senate seat. Ensign, a two-term Republican, cited the accumulated pressures of investigations conducted by the Justice Department and the Senate into controversies stemming from the extramarital affair he admitted two years ago.

Apparently, the Senate has nothing better to do than to investigate a soon to be ex-senator. Why? The ethics committee can't do anything to Ensign.
If there is indeed some criminal activities, then turn the case over to the FBI. Oh wait, the Feds took over the case when they indicted the husband of the wife Ensign had the affair with when they charged him with being a lobbyist when he wasn't supposed to.
Harry Reid is playing a desperate case of politics in hopes, very slim hopes that the Dem's can win the Senate seat in 2012 and Heller's congressional district. That, or Old Man Harry is still suffering from dementia again.
Besides Harry acting like an old fool again, this is going to be fun times in Nevada. We have never filled a House of Representatives seat and so there are conflicting laws on how to do it. It's going to make great theater.
Well, Frankly......
