The News of the World newspaper out of London has seen it's last day as it is being shut down because of scandal. Which is interesting because the NOTW has used scandal as one of it's selling points.
The NOTW, owned by Rupert Murdoch, was brought down in scandal when it was found out that employees tapped into phone lines and listen to people's voice mails. Some off the voice mails hacked were those of dead soldiers and a 13 year old who was murdered..
The NTOW had the highest circulation of all the newspapers in London but went Murdoch heard about the scandal, he shut down the paper almost immediately, which is almost unheard of.
Somehow, I have my doubts if an American newspaper owner would do the same thing in the U.S.. I also have a feeling that some newspaper reporters probably are kicking themselves in the butt for not thinking of this earlier. Further, if a liberal reporter did this, the left would be celebrating the actions of the reporter but if a conservative reporter did this, then the left would lynch them. But in the end, if publishing military secrets won't close down a newspaper, then I don't think anything else will either.
