Lately, NASCAR is more boring than watching paint dry or watching food cooking show. Soccer, to me, is always boring- low scoring and little ball movement.
However, this weekend, in the Woman's World Cup in Germany, the U.S. woman's team played a brilliant and exciting game against Brazil, scoring a goal in the 121 minute while playing a woman short. Then in penalty kicks, the U.S. team defeated Brazil 5-3to make it to the semi-finals.
From ESPN: Running low on hope and almost out of time, the Americans were surely beat, about to make their earliest exit from the Women's World Cup.
And then, with one of the most thrilling goals in U.S. history, they weren't.
Showing a dramatic burst sure to captivate the folks back home, the Americans packed an entire World Cup's worth of theatrics into a 15-minute span by beating Brazil 5-3 on penalty kicks after a 2-2 tie Sunday night.
Abby Wambach tied it with a magnificent, leaping header in the 122nd minute, and Hope Solo denied the Brazilians -- again -- in one of the most riveting games in the history of the World Cup, men's or women's. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report/_/id/323673?cc=5901
The U.S. women got a goal when Brazil player kicked one in her own goal. Then there was controversy over a penalty, where a U.S. player was ejected unfairly. The Brazil missed the penalty shot and but the ref allowed her to take another shot when a player may have crossed a line.
It was an exciting game and when you compare it to the NASCAR race this weekend, the women win hands down.
Good luck to the U.S. women as they play in the semifinals this week.
