There are going to be about 315,000 or more people on the Strip and on Fremont St. tomorrow night to ring in the New Year. In case you don't want to be with 315,000 of your closest friends or want to avoid the traffic nightmares- both driving and walking, here are some areas to watch the fireworks int he Las Vegas Valley.
Henderson: Horizon Ridge Parkway, just south of Gibson Road. There is some cleared area to watch and you can park on the side of the road. There is also a small road that goes up about half way up Black Mountain, which will give you even a better view. You may also see Lake Las Vegas's fireworks as well. You can also park at the Jack in the Box and Super Pawn at Horizon and Horizon Ridge and walk about 100 yards down the road and you get a great view of the entire Valley.
East Las Vegas: Hollywood Blvd: Almost the entire Hollywood Blvd has a great view of the fireworks.
Summerlin: Freedom Park, next to Bonner School is a nice place to watch and to let the kids play in the park at the same time.
Northeast: Las Vegas Blvd, by the race track. It's a greater distance, but you can still get a pretty good view.
South side: I'm not sure, though by the M Resort, there could be a good view.
The Strip fireworks will last about 8 1/2 minutes and the weather is supposed to be cool but not cold and there will be clear skies.
And just a reminder, don't shoot off your guns into the sky. A man was killed in North Las Vegas by the cops last year after he was shooting his hand gun into the sky and when the cops came by, he pointed the gun at the officers, who then shot and killed the man.
So, have fun and enjoy the fireworks wherever you are.
