From the LVRJ Reporters Note Book: During David Ashley's three years as president of UNLV, his office purchased $83,205.03 worth of equipment -- lots of computers, a video conference system, a giant screen TV.
One item, a desk, caused a bit of an uproar. The desk cost as much as a new car, $16,051.12, according to a review by the higher education system's internal audit department.

A $16,051.12 desk? In my classroom, we have two desks that probably cost a total of about $250, if not less.
So, to those who are crying boo hoo about the higher education budget, stop living in luxury and maybe we can take you more seriously.
Oh, and the desk, it's sitting in a closet somewhere, which means they probably bought a new desk for the new UNLV president.
