Interesting Tidbits From CCSD

There have been some recent developments in CCSD.
On Thursday, there was a meeting for all teachers who have been subjected to Reduction In Force (RIF), or subject to possible layoffs. There were about 1100 teachers subject to RIF but only 132 jobs available and 75 of those jobs were in Special Education and no one at the meeting could fill those positions because there were no special ed. teachers subject to RIF. So, those 1100 teachers were going after 57 jobs.
Now the fun begins as those without jobs, if they have enough seniority, can bump other teachers out of their jobs.
At the meeting, the administrators thought there may some pissed off teachers, so they had several CCSD police officers at the meeting.
Despite all these cuts in teaching positions, CCSD is still hiring for the following teaching positions:

Secondary Mathematics & Science (Grades 7-12) Secondary English (Grades 7-12)-->
Secondary Music: Band, Strings, Choir, Ethnic Music - Mariachi (Grades 7-12) Secondary Physical Education (Boys and Girls) (Grades 7-12)
Secondary Social Studies (Grades 7-12)
Secondary Spanish (Grades 7-12)-->
Secondary Career & Technical Education (CTE Grades 9-12) Airframe and Power Plant/Air Technology Agriculture Education--> Fire Services--> Health/Medical Occupations--> Physical Therapy/Sports Medicine Police Services/Law Enforcement Veterinary Technology
Elementary Bilingual: Spanish (Grades K-5) Elementary Education (Grades K-5)-->
Elementary Music (Grades K-5) Elementary Physical Education (Grades K-5) -->
Art (Grades K-12) School Counselor (Grades K-12)-->School Library Media Specialists (Grades K-12)-->
Special Education (Grades K-12)
Teachers of the Deaf (Grades K-12)
Teachers of the Visually Impaired (Grades K-12)

Recently 5 under performing schools were subject to reconstituting their staff- getting rid of 50% of it's employees.
At the 3 high schools involved- Chaparral, Western and Mojave, all hired back most of their administrators- assistant principals and deans. So, they had to get rid of half of the staff- teachers, custodians, food service workers, aides and secretaries but not the administrators. Umm yeah. All or almost of the assistant principals and deans were hired back into their old positons and they get a 3 year job guarantee at their positions.
That doesn't mean the administrators are bad or incompetent, but it does defeat the purpose of starting over with fresh blood.
So far, no news if any unions are going to go along with CCSD and Governor Sandoval proposals of cutting pay, paying more in insurance premiums and increasing the payment towards our pension funds.
Just some goings on at CCSD.
