Today, there was a 500 mile NASCAR race at Pocono today and if you watched it at home, I am wondering if you fell asleep like I did.
There were 4 cautions- 3 for debris and 1 for a competition yellow. there was only 1 spin in the race and very little side by side racing.
NASCAR is wondering why it's ratings and race attendance is dropping. The reason is really simple- the races are boring. Lately, the only excitement in a NASCAR race has been the finish and that's it. Today, they didn't even have a exciting finish as Jeff Gordon won by about 3 seconds and there was no drama at any time during the race. The only excitment at the end of the race was seeing if anyone would beat up Kyle Busch.
The Indy cars get lower ratings than NASCAR, but their races a far more exciting. They have high speed side by side racing with close finishes. The Indy 500 was excellent, throughout the entire race and had a fantastic finish.
NASCAR, so far in 2011, has been a great cure for insomnia, especially since it is on TNT.
So, come on, NASCAR, you need to get your races more exciting or you will see a ratings meltdown, much like the foreclosure crisis killed home prices in Las Vegas.
