From Michelle Malkin: Despite renewed statements of concern by Catholic leaders, the Obama administration is done negotiating and will finalize its plan requiring insurance companies to provide free contraception to women working and studying at religious institutions, President Obama’s chief of staff said Sunday.
Jacob Lew told “Fox News Sunday” that the compromise offered last week to address objections by the Catholic Church is clear and consistent with the president’s “very deep belief that a woman has a right to all forms of preventive health care, including contraception.”
“We have set out our policy,” Lew said. “We are going to finalize it in the final rules, but I think what the president announced on Friday is a balanced approach that meets the concerns raised both in terms of access to health care and in terms of protecting religious liberties, and we think that’s the right approach.” http://michellemalkin.com/2012/02/12/obama-chief-of-staff-compromise/
Lost in the mix here seems to be the point that the administration doesn’t have the authority to do any of this in the first place, which is why it’s important reject the entire premise and not validate the effort by accepting any “revised compromise.” Assume somebody says they’re going to take four of my cookies, and I say they have no right to do that. Then they say they’re willing to compromise and only take two cookies, and I reluctantly agree. Either way I’ve admitted that they have a right to reach into my cookie jar, so before I know it there won’t be any cookies left… at which point I’ll be told it was for my own good because I needed to lose a few pounds anyway.
President Obama really doesn't care what Christians think. He's not a Christian (what he is, I have no idea) but he thinks that Christian denominations need to compromise on their beliefs to fit the government's needs. That's not how it works. Religious denominations should not have to fit their beliefs to the will of the government. If the government demands something from a Church that directly contradicts the beliefs of the Church, then the government should expect a fight.
This isn't new. In the 1960's, I believe, the Amish took the government to court when the government demanded that the Amish religious schools conform to the government run schools. The Amish fought and they won and now they can run their Amish schools as they see fit.
Now, today, with the issue of abortion and contraceptives, the Churches will fight and they will probably win in court and in public opinion.
But Obama will have no idea what hit him because he believes what he says is gold and that he feels that he is right on every issue. Obama believes he is the smartest person in the room and that no one will dare to challenge him. Therefore, in his mind, no one will fight him on these issues and when when he finds out that someone challenged him, he will seek revenge. Obama is totally blind when it comes to opinions that are contrary to his opinions.
So, Obama will be in a state of shock when he finds out that he isn't right on this issue and that people oppose this Bozo. Once again, Obama, like the emperor, will realize that he wears no clothes.
