From the New York Daily News:
Attorney General Eric Holder accrued $4.3 million in taxpayer-funded travel expenses in just over three years, including $697,525 in personal travel costs, records showed Monday.
Holder took 213 out-of-Washington trips from March 27, 2009 to August 24, 2012, according to public documents obtained by the conservative organization and website Judicial Watch.
His 31 personal trips included two jaunts to Martha’s Vineyard that totaled $95,184 in flight expenses, eight visits to Farmingdale, N.Y. for $118,553 and an Atlantic City break for $118,553.
Holder is required to use government aircraft for all government and personal travel for reasons related to national security and the need for secure communications, a Justice Department official said Monday night.
For personal trips, President Obama’s chief law enforcement officer must reimburse the government for the equivalent of a commercial air fare, the official added.
That can be much less than the total trip cost, partly because Holder frequently flies on a Gulfstream V private jet — the same model used by many celebrities.
“It is dictated by the federal government,” said Brian Fallon, a Justice Department spokesman.
“The same rule applied to his predecessors and also applies to the heads of the Pentagon, FBI and CIA.”...
In April 2011, Holder racked up $15,452 in taxpayer-funded expenses for travel to Manhattan in order to speak at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, according to Judicial Watch.Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/holder-cost-taxpayers-millions-travel-expenses-article-1.1418455#ixzz2bBIl13My
First, why would Holder speak at Al Sharpton's network of racists? Oh wait, we do have a racist attorney general.
And why didn't Sharpton and his band of racists reimburse the U.S. government to have fellow racist talk to them?
I don't begrudge Holder for having to use a government airplane. However, like Obama, it seems like Holder really doesn't give a crap about the cost to taxpayers.
But then again, when it comes to ethics, Holder doesn't have them- most attorney general's would have resigned after 1 or 2 scandals, but it seems like Holder's scandals number in the dozens.
Holder's just in this job for the perks and the power and nothing else.
