The corruption-busting U.S. attorney was canned Saturday by the White House after spurning the administration’s call for his resignation one day earlier.
“I did not resign,” Bharara tweeted Saturday. “Moments ago I was fired. Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life.”
The federal prosecutor, one of 46 U.S. attorneys asked to submit his resignation Friday, apparently forced Attorney General Jeff Sessions to fire him rather than walk away quietly. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/preet-bharara-fired-manhattan-u-s-attorney-article-1.2995175
But hey, apparently it wasn't a scandal when Bill Clinton did the same thing in 1993.
From the National Review: It’s only natural that a president will want his power wielded by his own appointees, whom he trusts to carry out his policy program. In March 1993, Janet Reno began her tenure as President Bill Clinton’s attorney general by summarily firing United States attorneys for 93 of the 94 federal districts (one, Michael Chertoff, was retained in New Jersey, at the request of Democratic Senator Bill Bradley). That is more than twice as many as Trump attorney general Jeff Sessions fired on Friday. Indeed, there were only 46 Obama-appointed U.S. attorneys left for Sessions to relieve because Obama appointees fully understood that this is the way things work. Many of them had already moved on, in the expectation that the president elected in November would replace them — an expectation that became a virtual certainty once it was clear that this change of administrations would be a change of parties, and visions.

So, it is a headline maker and a scandal for the NY Daily News but it shouldn't be.
Just more fake news from the brain dead media.
The missing context:
ReplyDeleteOther presidents didn't give the attorneys virtually no notice, with a summary firing/request for resignation, and a walk out of the building with security. Almost always, there is an orderly transition. Secondly, Preet Bharara was personally summoned to Trump earlier to be asked to STAY. And THEN, was told he was out. Which is curious. So, no, Bill Clinton didn't do EXACTLY the same thing.
