John Ensign revealed today that he will vote "no" on the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee, Elena Kagen.
From the LVRJ: Elena Kagan might win confirmation to the Supreme Court, but Sen. John Ensign said Thursday she will not have his vote.
Ensign announced he will oppose Senate confirmation of Kagan, the solicitor general and President Barack Obama's choice for the highest court.
The reason: In discussing the Second Amendment, Ensign maintained Kagan told him "she had never studied the history of the amendment. She said she had studied the scholarship of it but not the history of it. She had never read the writings of the founders" on the topic.
"To me, the Second Amendment is key to the rest of the Bill of Rights," Ensign said. "This is the Supreme Court she is asking to be on. These people should know much more about the founders than any member of Congress."
Ensign also said Kagan's handling of military recruiters while dean of Harvard Law School "was no small issue to me."

Kagen never studied the history of the 2nd amendment nor read the what the founding fathers wrote about the amendment?
My guess is that she probably has not done much reading of any of the Constitutional amendments or what the founding fathers thought about them because she doesn't care. She believes that the constitution can be overturned at anytime because the constitution evolves. She doesn't care what the founding fathers believed.
Ensign did the right thing by voting "no".
Gaetz withdraws.

I don't trust a thing Ensign says about Kagen. He's just posturing to try to get conservatives on his side (in hopes they'll forget his sleazy actions).
ReplyDeleteI don't trust Ensign either. While he may claim to be a conservative, his actions say otherwise. In the past I have defended him, but I have called for to resign. He is the next Jim Gibbons. If he runs, he won't make it out of the primary.
