American Somoa Police Officer Shot And Killed-Cops Not Allowed To Have Guns

An American Samoa police officer was shot and killed on Thursday: From the Samoa News: "A veteran police officer was fatally shot yesterday afternoon, beside the parking lot of the temporary High Court building in Fagatogo. This is the first deadly shooting of an officer in recent memory. Detective Lt. Liusila Brown was allegedly shot by Siaumau Siaumau Jr., using a handgun that he had inside a small bag under his arm pit, according to an eye witness. While the motive for the shooting is unclear, Brown was one of the investigators probing many cases related to Siaumau’s family." This video was shot immediately after the shooting:

The sad thing is this officer was not able to defend himself or other officers defend because police officers in American Samoa are not allowed to use guns in the line of duty. Because of this policy, the officer is dead.
The chief of police i demanding that the governor allow police officers to have guns.
He said that there have been numerous requests made to the Governor to have police bear arms and he hopes that in light of Brown’s death, the requests will finally be approved.

“I hope something good comes out of this for the police officers,” Tuaolo told the gathering in an emotion-filled voice. “I can’t think right now… I can’t talk… no one wants to go through this… he was a father… let us think of God and look to him for comfort.”
Tuaolo told Samoa News that a trainer who previously visited the island to work with local officers suggested that local police be armed.
