Copper Thefts Coming Back?

From the Las Vegas Sun:"Just when it seems Downtown has had enough bad news for one week, Brett Wesley Gallery takes a hit. The gallery's ongoing chamber music series had to be cancelled Thursday night because copper thieves had damaged the air-conditioning unit.
The thieves hopped the fence and climbed the roof to steal the copper, causing about $3,000 in damage."

A couple years ago, copper theft was rampant. It got so bad that thieves would steal copper from light poles on the freeway. Thieves would go up on roofs and steal copper from the air conditioning units. The cops cut down as did copper problems and the problem seem to go away. Copper prices are at about $3.10 a pound- not sure what they are paying at the junk yards, though, probably less than half of that.
Hopefully, this is a a one time occurrence.
