One of Madison's top chefs is facing charges of substantial battery and obstructing an officer in connection with a fight at a Downtown bar in August.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 25 for Tory Miller, 36, executive chef and owner of L'Etoile and Graze restaurants.
A criminal complaint alleges that Miller got into a fight with another man shortly before 1:30 a.m. Aug. 7 inside the Plaza Tavern, 319 N. Henry St. A third man, Joshua Steward, told police that he was trying to calm things down and separate the two when Miller swung his fist and struck him in the eye, then left the bar and walked toward State and Gorham streets.
(As an aside, the Plaza Tavern is quite a dive, but has one hell of a burger, the Plaza Burger)
But if you are going to commit a crime and want to get away, you may not want to look like this:
According to the complaint, Miller was identified in part by his mohawk-style haircut with a Green Bay Packers "G" trimmed onto the left side of his head. An officer located Miller, whom she said smelled of intoxicants and had slurred speech, at the corner of Gorham and Henry streets. Miller denied having done anything and said he hadn't stopped anywhere other than Library Mall, where he met friends, after leaving his Graze restaurant and bar.
