Why Unions Love Obama's "Jobs" Plan

In article that could have been written by President Obama's speech writer, from Firehouse.com: President Obama's jobs proposal delivered to Congress last week includes $1B for SAFER and $10B for the build out of D-Block, the public safety network.
Read the American Jobs Act
In addition to re-hiring and hiring fire and rescue personnel, 20 percent of the SAFER money would be ear-marked for volunteer departments for recruiting and retention.
In a prepared statement, IAFF President Harold Schaitberger said: "If approved, the funding would be sufficient to rehire every laid-off fire fighter (sic) and still add thousands of new positions."
Obama's proposal for the SAFER boost would be in addition to the $375M that the Senate Appropriations Committee recently passed.
Bill Webb, executive director of the Congressional Fire Services Institute, said his organization and others will be working to get the funds for both approved.
"We will be working both sides of the aisle," he said. "This is important."

So, Obama's job plan may pay for rehiring firefighters who have been laid off because of previous SAFER grants and doesn't pay for things like benefits, pensions, overtime etc. Yes, it is nice to have a lot of firefighters, but you have to pay for them, including their salaries, benefits and pensions. The same goes for teachers, cops and other government workers Obama wants to partially fund. Obama's plan do not cover all these expenses.
So, of course the firefighter's union (who don't know how to spell firefighters) want more full time firefighters hired. That provides more union dues to support the lavish lifestyles of the union leaders. It's nothing more than that.
And this is why communities that accept Federal government funds for teachers or firefighters end up in financial troubles. They see the free money from the Feds but don't look at the future and see that they may have to fund these positions in the very near future with local funds.
This is just a big sloppy kiss and butt hump from Obama to the public employee unions.
Worst president ever.
