From the RGH: 1:02 p.m. update: "Our job is to identify what caused this accident, so we can make safety recommendations to make sure it does not happen again," said NTSB member Mark Rosekind.
12:59 p.m. update: The NTSB knows that part of the tail is missing on the aircraft that crashed. They have recovered something that may be the part that came off, but have confirmed it was from the aircraft. But they caution people not to draw any conclusions.
Several classes of students who attended the Reno National Championship Air Races at Stead Friday were gone before the crash occurred that left 9 dead.
12:58 p.m. update: The Reno Police Department reported seven fatalities on the tarmac at Reno Stead Airport and two at the hospital, for a total of nine. Twenty-four people are being treated and 17 have been released. Fifty-four were transported.
12:55 p.m. update: Nine people have died in the Reno Air Races crash. NTSB investigators have done preliminary investigation at the site of Friday's crash. The focus now is on gathering factual information.
