Crybaby Harry Reid just threw the small town of Ely, NV. under the bus today as he voted for the Transportation Department's Essential Air Service program. Yes, I know Dean Heller voted for it, but it was Crybaby Reid who was yelling at the GOP late last year.
From the LVRJ: Future commercial air service out of White Pine County Airport in Ely may be imperiled by legislation that cleared Congress on Monday.
The Senate voted, 75 to 20, to approve a four-year, $63.6 billion Federal Aviation Administration bill Monday that tightens eligibility rules for the Transportation Department's Essential Air Service program.
Under the bill, an airport would no longer be able to participate in the program if the per passenger subsidy exceeds $1,000. Commercial flights from the rural Nevada airport, provided by Great Lakes Airlines, surpass that figure.
Patrice Ly, the airport's manager, and James Adams, who manages Ely's Great Lakes Airlines station, had no immediate comment. They were still reviewing the legislation.
Brian Sowa, a spokesman for the Rural Air Service Alliance, said Monday that it appeared Ely could be knocked out of the program under the legislation....
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the bill would give FAA "the stability it needs to properly maintain a world-class air travel system."
Reid said the bill would allow FAA to upgrade the nation's air-traffic control system and invest in airports and runways across the nation.
From PBS: SEN. HARRY REID, D-Nev. majority leader: The Essential Air Service is a program that I believe in. Sometimes, you have to be reasonable. And I thing, as do -- we learned with this big deal we have just done, sometimes, you have to step back and find out what's best for the country. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/government_programs/july-dec11/faa_08-02.html
From United Transportaion Union:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) remain committeed to not sacrificing the Essential Air Service program or allowing a congressional rollback of the NMB rule. President Obama has promised to veto any bill that does not preserve the Essential Air program and leave untouched the NMB ruling.
PBS and the United Transportation Union, hardly conservative organizations.
Is there anybody less ethical than Crybaby Reid in the state of Nevada? I don't think so.
