From the Houston Chronicle: Christine Ha, a blind graduate student at the University of Houston,
has won Season 3 of Fox’s popular reality cooking show MasterChef.
Ha beat out Josh Marks, a U.S. Army contract specialist from of
Jackson, Miss., for the title, which comes with a $250,000 check, a
cookbook deal and a shiney trophy.
For the finale, the home cooks were tasked with creating three
courses in two hours. Marks went with a butter-poached lobster with
sweet corn grits, rack of lamb with curry spice and spring vegetables
and bacon pecan pie. http://www.29-95.com/restaurants/story/blind-houston-grad-student-wins-season-3-masterchef
I watched the show and they made a good choice. However, the judges either said she wasn't qualified to cook because she was blind or they said she had an advantage because she was blind.
No one really said she was a great chef because she was a great chef.
People with disabilities still have a long way to go to get rid of discrimination.

Christine was proving herself for the most part, but I definitely think there were times they saved her when she should have gone home. Despite that fact, she studied, memorized recipes and proved herself with consistency throughout her final meal. I started having my Dish coworker over to watch since he introduced me to the show and we made a big event out of the finale. Instead of the commercial breaks, we used the Auto Hop on my PrimeTime Anytime recordings to watch commercial free, and then took food breaks. Everything took an hour anyway, but we enjoyed the time we would have been watching commercials by loading our plates!
