The other day, when I worked at K-Mart, the Salvation Army started to have bell ringers outside K-Mart stores in hopes to raise money for different programs for the Salvation army.
This past weekend, it was cold and windy where I live in Kingman, AZ.
In fact, it was biting cold and it was colder than some cities in Wisconsin.
The bell ringer, an older female, probably in her mid 60's, told me she was freezing cold and shivering, and this was around 2:30 in the afternoon.
I asked the store manager if the bell ringer could come inside to ring the bell in the foyer area of the store.
She told me that it was against K-Mart policy to let them inside and that the arrangement with the Salvation Army was that the bell ringers have to stay outside and no exceptions for the weather.
As someone who has rung the bells, it is hard work. You have to stand for hours in 1 place and you cannot move around to warm up. Your muscle tighten up and it makes it difficult to warm up, even with layers of winter clothes on.
So, K-Mart, acting as a scrooge and the store manager who refuses to use common sense by letting the Salvation Army inside when it is cold outside, well, they are nothing but a bunch of Scrooges.

It is nice that K-Mart allows bell ringers. So many places don't allow them any more. If I was the manager, I would have considered a sign next to the bell ringer that said, "Cold? Warm up inside while shopping!"
