I have never supported a balanced budget amendment for the Federal government because you never know when a 9-11 may hit or a huge natural disaster may hit the U.S. and I happenn to agree with Crybaby Harry Reid on this matter.
From the Las Vegas Sun: While Congress was on vacation, the country got walloped with a triple-whammy from Mother Nature: an uncommon earthquake shook the nation’s capital, then a hurricane flooded swaths of the East Coast, and now, wildfires are consuming millions of acres in Texas.
Those catastrophes have become Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s latest rallying cry against House Republicans' spending proposals.
“I don’t see how we, this great nation we have, can stand on the sidelines when our people are suffering,” Reid said to reporters Tuesday. “Some of my Republican colleagues are trying to – um, I was going to say something that was vulgar and I’m not going to do that. Are trying to cater to the Tea Party by holding up relief efforts.”
The complaint stems from Republicans’ push for Congress and the country to adopt a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. The amendment would limit the annual budget to the government’s annual tax intake, and also cap spending at 20 percent of GDP – a cap that could be waived by a simple majority vote in Congress in times of war or domestic security. But not necessarily in times of emergencies caused by natural disasters.

Of course, the mentally challenged Karoun Demirjian said the earthquake, hurricane/rainstorms and wild fires are catastrophes in which they are not. and these events could be covered in a normal Federal budget, but there is a chance we will suffer an actual catastrophe like Katrina or 9/11 when the Muslims declared war on the U.S.. There has to be a clause in the budget amendment to address real catastrophes and at this time, i have not seen one. Crybaby Harry Reid does have a point about that. But on the other hand a minor earthquake or a minor hurricane or some wild fires should be expected each year in the Federal budget and should be budgeted for.
If the mentally challenged Karoun Demirjian included the tornado outbreaks or the floods this year, she may have a little bit more creditability, but since she is employed by the Las Vegas Sun, under the ownership of Brian, the "Coward" Greenspun, a pot and crack addicted editor of the Sun, we cannot expect much more from her.
So, every once in awhile, Crybaby Reid comes out of his dementia and actually makes some common sense. And those who call for a balanced budget amendment, need to address actual emergencies before calling for the balanced budget amendment.
