Heidi Harris Gone From KDWN

Female conservative talker, Heidi Harris apparently is gone from KDWN, 720 AM in Las Vegas.
Harris has been missing from the air waves for about 2 weeks or so and I thought she was just going on vacation, but after looking at the KDWN web site, it appears she has been replaced by Alan Stock. formerly of AM 840.
On the KDWN web site, it says that Alan Stock now has the 6-9 AM slot and Harris's name is no longer found on the KDWN web site.
Norm Clark reported this on his column today:
HARRIS OUT AT KDWN
Heidi Harris' five-year run as a featured talk-show host is over at KDWN-radio, AM 720.
She was off the air all week and she no longer appears on the web page.
Earlier this week, Harris tweeted: "Two things you need in life: 1. The truth on your side 2. A very good lawyer."
In recent days she has been posting inspirational scriptures on Twitter.
If she were down in the dumps, she didn't let it show. She posted a photo Thursday night of herself with the hunks from "Thunder From Down Under."
http://www.lvrj.com/news/steve-wynn-hires-more-bodyguards-142177343.html
She was a good conservative talker and I don't like Alan Stock, so I don't know  who I will listen to in the morning- probably ESPN 1100..
I saw this coming- Alan Stock is a radio hog but really isn't that talented.  He knows some politicians and news makers but he is rude and if you disagree with him, he just cuts you off because he isn't capable to debate with people he disagrees with.  Heidi Harris runs laps around Stock's fat body because she is so much more talented than Stock. But I guess that doesn't count if you work probably close to nothing..
But KDWN has been in a cost saving mode for the past couple of months.  They have cut back on the news- just national news in the afternoon and some local news they get out of the LVRJ in the morning.  They still do traffic, though a ham sandwich could do that.
So, KDWN continues it's downfall and it's trend to an all national talk shows and getting out of local news and talk. Get your resume out, Alan Stock, you're not going to be employed by KDWN much longer.
What a shame because Harris was a very hard worker and had talent.  She will do good and will land another job in Vegas or another city, maybe even get a gig at MSNBC (oh my, can it worse than that?)

It has Heidi's new e-mail address and news about her future (in 2 weeks we will know)

  2. OMG Harris was awful...that voice was like nails on a chalkboard...you guys are crazy. However, I do agree that Stock is a lateral move and not an upgrade. Just another talking head...but at least as I am going through the channels I don't have to cringe at the sound of his voice. AM 640 or 670 I think it is...that's better in this time slot.

    4. I would have to agree... Me being one of them. I thought it was Gracious when Stock:( joined 720....and I admit I was suspicious.
When I hear d Dr Dalia in the am .. I was ok ... Everyone needs a vacation. .... And then to Hear stock at that time... I knew it was BAD news.
I recall when Heidi left 840... And I was thrilled to see her photo and announcement about 720. Hmmm where will her announcement tell of next. It's just a matter of when.. Have you listened to 840 lately? Heidi's departure was their demise! Whatch out 720... Now the ONLY time I listen to 720 is 3-6 in the aftenoon.
Someone made the wrong CALL... Soon enough...it will be evident.
We miss u HH! Just keeping my eye out for where you'll pop u next!

  3. According to my sources, Heidi was fired because she was ask to apologize for something she did not say, so she stood her ground and now the GM Tom Humm and KDWN will now pay the price. Heidi was the foundation of KDWN, Stock is not made for mornings which he has admitted himself.

Several advertisers pulled out as soon as it was announced Harris was let go as I am sure more will follow. Also Dennis Miller was given his 30 day notice by KDWN, so that will be off by April.

Here is what we have to look for:

5-6am: Michael Gowdey (a Liberal Lawyer take on politics)
    6-9am: Alan Stock
    9-10am: KDWN Legal Hour
10-12pm: Sports Talk (An out of state host) starts first week of April

Pretty sad!! As I understand everyone of these people pay for there air time, including Stock.... I'm almost certain that Harris will pop up real shortly, if there are smart people in the business out there, which I am sure there still is, she will already have some offers pending. Should be fun in the next couple weeks.

    1. Thanks for your information- sounds reasonable.
That's interesting that Stock pays for his time. I'm not surprised by the others paying.
At least KXNT has starting to get some local programming that is worth listening to.
But Las Vegas radio has gone way down hill, starting about 2 years ago when Casey Hendrickson was let go. Now, we basically have national talkers and some local goofs.
However, ESPN radio, 1100 AM and 98.9 FM in the afternoon is still the best in the Valley and would be the best in most cities.

    2. FYI - KDWN did not give Dennis Miller it's 30 day notice. It was the other way around. Stock does not pay for his time, either. And KDWN did not lose any advertisers. Wish I had the time to sit around and speculate like everyone else.

  5. Heidi quit co-hosting mornings with Alan Stock years ago to go out on her own. So, this is kind of full circle.

  8. KDWN has finally lost me in the morning. First, the station stops broadcasting the Kim Komando show [thank God for TuneIn Radio! :) ], and now they ditch Heidi Harris. Would LOVE it if she landed a 3-hour or 4-hour morning gig on AM 670 or AM 840. Until then, I suppose I'll listen to No Agenda (The Best Podcast in the Universe!), TWiT podcasts and Gay Pimpin' With Jonny McGovern instead. Come back soon, Heidi! We need you!

    1. Heide is an embarrassment to many women. She sucks up to the metro police and brags thst it is sexy to drive fast! Also she has an hysterical voice delivery which is very annoying. I think women who have a lot of money can better help by helping the children of a woman trying to raise her children alone with food and help; before she feeds a bunch of dogs and squanders money on eating fast food. Heide does not want childen to have food at school, she hates to think her money goes to children.

Don't agree with Anonymous single mother. Heidi is not a mom, therefore misses "some" points that only can come from a parent, however, parents don't always see the bigger picture. I like a different viewpoint if it doesn't come from someone with their hand out : ) And,for some, unfortunately, they've never known any life differently.

  10. I listened to Heidi as I drove to work in the mornings in Central California - from Solvang to Santa Barbara. She was a breath of fresh air - she was reasonable in her arguements...she is one of the most intelligent and refreshing voices on radio. I wish her the best and would love to hear her again soon. I've often thought that she would make it to National Radio. I miss her and will miss hearing Tony's spin on things too. Whatever happened will soon be water under the bridge because I predict her bright star will shine soon again and for those folks that never liked her, or didn't like the tone of her voice -- well, you have other options. Why don't you purchase XM Radio? There's a variety of stations out there for your listening pleasure...that is, unless you can't afford to purchase XM Radio because you voted for The Chosen One who promised you that he'd pay your mortgage and buy you a car....and if you can't afford XM Radio, well, sorry.

  12. I'm glad she's finally gone! This should be a lesson to the management what we Don't Want anymore...

Now, she'll be able to put her money where her mouth is and show the unemployed who she took pleasure in taking daily stabs at, how to get a job!! She should have paid a little more attention to how Casey Hendrickson ended up for all of his Hot Shot know-it-all rhetoric!

Where does management come up with these people who have "Old - Usually Odd Voices," anyway? She could certainly use some voice lessons along with someone to teach her how to draw the listeners in instead, of trying to show her audience how smart she is with her fast talking punch-lines!

If I dared to make the mistake of falling asleep with my radio on, she'd wake me up at 5:00 am with her vocal chords vibrating so fast that I'm surprised she didn't collapse from her own hyperventilating hype!

Could you image her poor husband having to live with her barking orders day in and day out? Bet her poor little puppies even cover their ears when they'd hear her coming!!

I am so disappointed she is gone from KDWN, I just can't take listening to her replacements. I also enjoyed hearing the Las Vegas news. We don't get much of that up here in the North. Hope Heidi returns to a station I can receive in Fallon. Love ya', Heidi.

  17. What makes someone worth listen to? Heidi was by far my favorite radio head, even though I disagreed with her often. She was passionate... maybe even a little crazy but that is what made her interesting. I haven't tuned into KDWN since she left. It is outrageous that she disappeared. Radio waves have lost a real talent. Even if there were occasions when I had to tune her out because she infuriated me so much... I would NEVER have wished her gone. This is very sad news.

  19. I just heard a KDWN commercial announcing Stock's new hours, which research lead me here... Thank you to those who shared some possibilities as to Heidi's departure.

Sure, she didn't have a phone sex operator's voice; and yes, she didn't quite grasp true depth of what it's like being unemployed in Vegas since the economy began to crumble -but she was very stimulating, she was open to hear more than just her views.

I hope some FM station picks her up so she can continue to stimulate our thinking, continue introduce us to all the facts, not just what the main media wants to manipulate us with.

BTW, didn't Heidi make some comment about being employed, or losing her job shortly before the radio behaved like she was on vacation?

KDWN was at it's best when it had Heidi, Heather Kidd and Casey Hendricks. Here's to hoping to hear from them soon.

  23. It's unfortunate that Heidi is gone and that Alan took her spot. As a local author, I hand delivered copies of my book, Average American Politics (amazon.com) to both hosts when they were on competing stations and neither followed up. As a conservative and a local I would have thought it would have been good radio, that and the fact I hosted my own show in Phoenix for 3 years. It's a shame these changes happened but someone has to learn from this... Just not sure who it will be or what lesson they will come away with...

  27. When Heidi first returned to KDWN I cheered and counted myself among her fans. For the last several months I felt her show was one big info-mercail for "her" book, "her" gigs "her" cable appearances etc etc. She was spending more time promoting her outside self then discussing the issues. If she does manage to land another spot I hope she goes back to the basics of discussing the issues, thats what most of her listeners tuned in to hear.

  28. I disagreed with Heidi on many points, but still enjoyed listening to her on my 45 minute morning commute. I continued to listen out of habit as Alan Stock took over, and now I want to eat a bullet. He is an inflammatory, uninformed bully who refuses to let anyone who doesn't agree with him speak their mind. What I'd love to see is Jerry Doyle in this time slot. (Admittedly, I have sort of a radio crush on him...)

  29. Whoever said nails on a chalkboard to desribe Heidi's voice was right on. I listen for the the traffic reports, so I put up with it. While she had some good points she was often too outspoken which will eventually get anyone fired. I won't miss her.

  30. I host my own radio show on KNUU 970 AM Tuesdays at 4 PM. The show is avaialble for streaming or archived podcast at http://970knuu.com. We are mostly business/finance station but I do some politics/public policy and my show is the most balanced left/right in all media.

I pay for my show. That is becoming more the trend. The people with 3 hour slots and lots of advertisers do not pay for their show. If Heidi was paying them rather than them paying her she would still be on the air. KNUU used to have a locally produced morning show, now we have Don Imus. They used to do local news and traffic in my hour, not they don't so it gives me five more minutes for my show. There is simply almost no economics in local radio anymore, because whether its Don Imus or Rush, or even shows you might not have heard like Ray Luccia on KNUU they are al national syndicated and they will pay more for that time block that the local station can make selling ads and having to pay someone to do content.

  32. Heidi was critical of many, and was disliked for that reason. You can sense that strong dislike from a lot of the comments here. She is attacked, not for what she says, but for what she sounds like.

She was critical of the cost of higher education, new textbooks racket, welfare recipients, lazy people, etc.

I love Heidi, and KDWN's decision to let her go wasn't a prudent one.

I'm sure pressure was put on KDWN by radical liberal attack machines. We see what they did with Rush recently. When liberals don't like what you say, they seek to silence you. You don't find conservatives doing that very much.

  39. I didn't know she was gone as I had already quit listening to her increasingly whiney voice, constantly pushing her religious views, or her book or her singing act. She was worth listening to at one time but that time ended almost a year ago. I am so tired of so-called 'conservatives' pushing their arrogant, stiff-necked, uncompromising views. Some of us old time conservatives have had our fill of all of these phoneys.

  42. I've been watching this commentary for some time and one thing is for sure, even if you hated her you'd listen to Heidi. The proof is the number of pro and cons commenting on this blog. That was the essence and power of her personality. I have not even touched 720 since she left, 670 has gained a new listener and I find the lineup refreshing. All these stations have problems with women speaking out....670 carries Laura Ingram, another powerhouse. Like all stations that have run their course, 720 is at the end of theirs. When they convert to "all sports, all the time" (probably within the next 6 months)that will be the end of their time in the talk radio limelight. Heidi brought 720 significant increased listenership (and thus advertisers), and by virtue of her absence she'll take it all away. Bye, Bye 720!

  45. How sad, like everything else in Vegas, what ever was good is gone, even the Lake Mead. How sad a sinners city indeed. Heidi Harris was good, although I didn't agree with everything she talked about, she was good. Now it will never be the same. Las Vegas is boring anymore. The Glass Pool gone and Bikini Lounge, Casa Malaga, Klondike. These old places made Las Vegas fun and exciting and are now all gone. I'l never forget the old Las Vegas, where the girls were pretty and gave you the best service and made you feel like someone special, Those were the day's for sure, but I will forget the new illegal alien Vegas and a State very much in debt just like illegal alien California.

  46. I too thought she was on vacation, or perhaps sick leave. After listening to Alan Stock, I must say what are the owners/managers of this radio show thinking. He drones on. Talks about nothing of real interest, and lately has had his daughter on there giving her nonsense commentary. I must say KDWN has sunk to an all-time low. I'd much rather have Heidi on there; whether she was opinionated or not. She was educated and had excellent debating skills. They lost a very high-energy personality and she will be missed, but I will find her on her new station. KDWN is one step away from AirAmerica, and we all know what happened to that.

  47. I'm a media critic, so I listen to a lot of radio. I publish online and follow Las Vegas talk radio closely. Got to tell you, I really like Michael Gowdey at 5-6 a.m. He is liberal, but criticizes both sides, and calls both of 'em on their crap. He's a refreshing change from the same old garbage we hear the rest of the day. Stimulate some critical thinking, and listen to both sides of every issue. The Best thing i like is that he also gives everyone who calls in a chance to talk without shouting them down or hanging up on them. I laugh because sometimes he has caller after caller disagree with his viewpoint, but after a couple of minutes, most of the time they end up agreeing with what he says. He's is a terrific criminal defense lawyer, and it comes through when you hear him argue with callers. Alan Stock is an absolute idiot. he's a race baiter, a bully, and is boring as all hell. I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to that guy for five minutes. If you disagree with Stock, he hangs up on you. Accrding to KDWN, Gowdey and Stock are KDWN talent, they don't pay for the airtime. Gowdey did time on Stock's show for a while, and generally got the better of him every times they argued. Stock seems very egotistical and insecure. The rest of the shows do pay (not Doyle and Savage, which are nationally syndicated). Heidi Harris was shrill and sometimes abrasive, but I've met her several times, and she was pretty nice in person. I just had a hard time with her voice and her refusal to bend even the slightest bit on her viewpoints. Heidi didn't like to talk to callers very much, she said so a lot of times.

  48. You know I'm a liberal Dan, though we get along generally. Among other things, what I really don't understand is right-wing talk radio fandom. Rush Limbaugh is an insufferable egotist. Mark Levin has a voice that could drive you to pierce your own eardrums (to say nothing of his personality). Michael Savage is clearly, manifestly insane. Sean Hannity is a colossal doofus who I doubt understands what he's saying. Locally, Alan Stock is a grouchy old man. Kevin Wall boils things down to their ultimate, simplest terms, and doesn't even seem to understand THAT. And Heidi Harris was a screeching harpie. Okay, the last one is tainted by my personal interactions with her. But she wasn't pleasant. Not friendly or nice. Just insistant that she was right, in very unpleasant terms.

At least on my side we can say that Rachel Maddow is smart and affable. Jon Stewart and Bill Maher are funny. All of the talented Hollywood stars who show their politics are liberals. You've got, what, John Voit, Kelsey Grammer and Janine Turner? Oh yeah, Ted Nugent! Yay for your side!

  52. I will add my comment,Heidi is missed for sure, whatever faults she had,she did a great job, kept me listening.I miss Dr Laura, Dennis Miller.Laura Ing.& all the great people who made the KDWN what still remains of.
Heidi made a comment before, that the Radio bussiness is tough,no one knows where their next pay check will come from.
Heidi & Allen were pretty good together, they complimented each other, got on each other nerves but, kept us listening on the other station.
What this stupid Radio bussiness don't get it, that people are creatures of habit, we often plan our day around favorite station/show. I drive all day long & look forward to some shows to start & others to END.
Loosing Heidi was a big mistake, Alan is good ,at times too opininated,on the wrong side.Having them together could have been good solution or fallow each other. The other crap. one can listen for so long & it's time to change the station.
I am sure that KDWN lost some advertisers. no secret.
KDWN has no Rush,no Hennity, what have they done with Dr Michael Savage? One more good host gone & it will be time to scratch this station off of my day.
Heidi listened to many people with opposing views & was mostly cordial. As for religion,I am pretty sure that Heidi is Christian.
Lets see if KDWN can resurect them self & keep the good, interesting hosts & kiss some feet which are attached to their A... if this station is to survive in this market.
Credit show is pretty interesting if you need the info. 1 x wk should be enough
Dr Dahlia is knowledgeable, loud mouth yes. she has plenty to offer thouh if you listen long enough. No one is perfect & KDWN has made some huge errors & lost thousands of listeners, maybe it's time to change the upper management, hire someone with knowledge in Radio talk bussiness.
