Say What?

You would think ESPN would correctly report on sports because, after all, sports is pretty much all they do.
So, how did this get by the writer and editor?
From ESPN: Including the five on Thursday, as well as Wednesday night's Dayton win over Boise State, there have been six games decided by one point or less thus far in the 2015 NCAA tournament. The record for most games decided by one point in a single NCAA tournament is seven -- total. That's happened three times (in 1982, 1990, and 1998).  http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/105163/how-good-was-thursday-historically-so
So, in basketball, how can a team lose by less than 1 point?
Are there 1/2 point shots?
