We went to Aviation Nation today instead of watching the Packer game. As it turned out, both were quite exciting.
The flight line had many, many different planes on displays. Sizes ranged from the C-5 Galaxy to a Civil air Patrol single engine plane.
They had fighter planes, bombers, including a B-1 and B-52, a C-17, an AWACS, Predators from Creech AFB in nearby Indian Springs, helicopters and the old planes that were flown in WWII and newer including the new Raptor (F-22?)
The Thunderbird show was fantastic, though there was one scary moment. About midway through the show, there was a murmur going through the crowd that something was wrong. I looked u and saw one of the planes break off. It became obvious something was wrong, but no one was talking on the loudspeaker. Then it came on the loudspeaker that one of the planes had experienced a mechanical problem, but that it was corrected and that the show would resume, which it did.
These pilots have to have such amazing concentration. To fly as fast as they were flying and then all of a sudden, you have a mechanical problem and after the problems resolved you carry on like nothing had happened. Amazing.
Another amazing sight was the senior enlisted NCO was out working, giving rides to the disabled with his golf cart
Thank you to Nellis AFB for putting on another great show. It makes you proud of our local Air men and women.
