Gordie Brown Review

When you combine Rich Little and Weird Al Yankovic, you get Gordie Brown.
Me and the wonderful Cathy went to see Gordie Brown the other day. It was the end of a stressful day and so we hoped it would be a nice day to unwind.
Gordie Brown performs at the Golden Nugget, on Fremont St. It's one of better casinos on Fremont St.
The audience consisted of mostly older folks, 50+. The theater was about 2/3 full, so about 200 people were in attendance.
Brown is an impersonator of the legends of music, from the Rat Pack, to Raps stars and some newer acts. Some of his impersonations were spot on and some were not. He did parodies of songs but did sing a couple of songs they way they were originally done.
He also does comedy, especially concentrating on George Bush and Bill Clinton. He did one Obama joke.
There were a couple of problems with his show. There was constant feedback from the sound, you kept hearing a high pitch sound throughout the show. Also, if you do parodies, you need to be able to hear what the singer is saying and that was difficult because the music was so loud.
Brown has a 4 piece band and the guitar player is almost a dead ringer for Jay Leno, sans the earring and the chin.
It was disappointing that after the show, Brown did not meet his audience unlike most performers in Las Vegas, but apparently Brown must thinks he is too big to do meet the audience for 15 minutes after a show. We did get to talk the bass player, Andre, after the show because we met him on the elevator after the show and he was on his way to another gig on the Strip Andre is a real nice guy and we had a nice short conversation.
The show says that the material may be inappropriate for people under 16, but I think they should raise the age to 18-21. The F-word is used a lot and a lot of sexual innuendo.
Ticket prices start at $39.95 plus service fees and taxes, so you are looking at around $45 a ticket or so. Then it goes up from there, to $109.95. If you are going to pay $109+, you better get a steak and lobster dinner thrown in, it's just not worth $109 to see him, especially since the show lasts only an hour.
