From the Las Vegas Sun: Businessman and past university system Chancellor Jim Rogers on Wednesday offered the Clark County School Board his services as superintendent, making himself available free of charge through July 2013.
In a letter sent to School Board President Terri Janison, Rogers said he had decided to make the offer after becoming “more and more concerned, not only about the School District’s ability to solve the present K-12 education problems in Southern Nevada, but it’s ability to have substantial future success.”
His offer comes after several months of lobbying by a coalition of parents who have asked the School Board to name Rogers interim superintendent while a formal search is conducted.
When Jim Rogers was at the helm at university system, he was constantly in fights with faculty and with the governor and legislatures. He didn't know how to run a university system and he sure in the hell won't know how to run a K-12 system.
What does he know about Special Education? This is a large part of K-12 education. While it is nice to have a business person take over CCSD, he needs more experience. what does he know about transportation.
Further, is it even legal? Does he have an administrator license? Will he get one?
Hiring Rogers is a non-starter. Even if Rogers is hired for 2 years, that means CCSD will have to look for another superintendent in 2 years. What if Rogers gets frustrated and just says the hell with it and just ups and quits. Then what? There is no incentive for Rogers to stay.
So, no to hiring Rogers for free and a big Hell no to hiring Rogers for any reason.
