Last night, Metro officers, while executing a search warrant for drugs, shot and killed a man in his apartment.
Metro has been pretty quiet about the case, other than stating that the man made a "furtive" movement towards the cop. The man's name is Trevon Cole.
If you look at the Las Vegas Sun, in the comment section, there are the man's supposed relatives coming to his defense, saying he was a good man, a former football star and a man making a living. They basically accuse Metro of shooting the guy in coldblood. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/jun/11/one-person-killed-metro-officer-involved-shooting/
The family was also on Channel 13, which seems to be the channel that people go to rip on Metro and proclaim their innocence of their relatives. http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=12640364
According to the online dictionary's, furtive means a stealth or secret movement. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/furtive
I do not know what happened in the apartment. The family admitted the guy smoked marijuana. Did he do more than just smoke? Don't know. Was he armed or made a threatening move toward the detective? Don't know.
I don't buy the argument from the family saying they didn't know who entered the apartment. When a warrant is served, the whole neighborhood knows what is going on because the cops are so loud.
Is it possible, the cops shot the guy accidentally? Sure and maybe that is why they are not saying much.
We won't know much for a few more days and until then, don't condemn the cops or the man shot.

you are right however he was not armed and he was in his underwear. what would u thin if someone bust into your house especially unannounced? hmm if i was in the situation i would go for my gun thinking someone is trying to rob me or if i was like the man in this situation no weapon i would hide. now as far as the movement thats just stupid who would do that with guns to their face? we will wait and see what happens
ReplyDeleteSorry, when cops enter apartments so loudly as you say, it is also very often so fast that people don't have time to figure out what is going on. Anyway, it's the third time this police officer has shot someone, and the second time he's killed. Get him off the streets or at least take his gun away.
