Where is Jerry Doyle

Where has Jerry Doyle gone? Is he writing a book like he said he is doing or is he ill like another radio host has said? Maybe he is on a long vacation.
Jerry is on KDWN from 12-3 but lately and for the last several weeks, the show has been taken over by Dwight Schultz whose main claim to fame is being Murdoch on the A-Team, the TV version. Schultz has filled in well and fits his Murdoch character but he is no Jerry Doyle.
His show is based out of Las Vegas but is nationally syndicated.

Update: Something strange is going on with this post. Apparently, some comments have been deleted, especially the newer comments and I have no idea why. When I take this to edit page, it says I have 74 comments but when I look at the post and comments, it just shows 65 comments, so I am missing 9 comments.
Why this is happening, I honestly don't know. I don't know even know how to delete comments.
So, my apologies to people who have commented here and their comments were deleted. I would suggest trying other Jerry Doyle posts to comment on.
Thanks
Dan

  1. Thanks for asking this question Dan. I have been wondering where Jerry is and this is the first time I'm finding any reference to his absence. I am concerned there is something wrong with Jerry because Dwight Schultz asked listeners to pray for Jerry. I wonder if he is in some sort of 30 day program? If Jerry had an accident or cancer or something like that, I would think a request would be made to send him a card or something. Well, prayers are in order, and I hope Jerry comes back to his show ASAP!

  2. Today, Schultz said Jerry would be back someday but didn't know or say when. I e-mailed their show but didn't get a response. I suspect something is wrong as well. In the past he has joked about his super high blood pressure, so I hope it is not related to that.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I also hope it isn't some sort of high blood pressure/cardio problem. Jerry also "jokes" about his smoking habit/problem, which could affect his high blood pressure issue. I'm glad you contacted the show - please post any news they might send. Meanwhile, I guess Jerry's listeners will have to wait, pray, and listen to Mr. Schultz.

  4. Obviously something serious. I'd expect a mention from Schultz (doing a great job) if it were a back problem or something that's not life threatening. Jerry also had a bout with cancer in the past, and with his high BP and smoking, is setting himself up for heart issues or stroke. Also a former Badger and hoping for the best for Jerry--a brilliant host and hellofaguy. Wish we knew something...

  5. Where is Sheridan when Garibaldi needs him?

  6. What ever the reason for his absense, it doesn't do him any good PR wise to stay quiet on the subject. I don't mean specifics, but his substitute host could say something like: "This is so and so filling in for Jerry Doyle who is out; a: sick, b: writing a book, c: on a long vacation, d: passed beyond the viel".

    ReplyDelete
  7. Since when is smoking a "problem"

Many people smoke and have none of these "problems"

I do hope that Jerry is ok btw.

  8. Looks like another JD listener got some additional info - check out the following link -answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100617150312AAqAb5o. It is weird KDWN/Talk Radio Network is so mysterious regarding any inquiries about Jerry. I hope Jerry and his mom are doing ok.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Maybe he's getting ready for a new reality show 'Where's Jerry".
I too have heard he has back trouble, but when he was out for that they said so. This is a stretch, but he may be in rehab. He does love to imbibe.
At any rate, he is missed and whatever the situation I wish him well.

    ReplyDelete
  10. One more way out theory; maybe he got married. Oh Jerry what have you done!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I thought he was already married.

    ReplyDelete
  12. On the other hand maybe it was partially heartbreak related. Last time I heard him, he did a long narrative on his weekend which started with a gull pooping on his lunch, and ended with him finding out that his gf of 7 years has moved out. Must have been off the cuff, 'cause Jesse was obviously caught off guard. God bless the dude - I listen to lots of talk radio, and Jerry is the best.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Could be a combination of things - 30 day rehab, broken heart about the girlfriend, his mom's health (I read she recently moved to Las Vegas?)... Also, has he been married a couple times? There was the Sci-Fi bride, but he said something about a grown son who kind of screwed up one too many times, and I think Jerry kind of distanced himself (disowned might be too harsh) from the guy. Don't know if Jerry was married to the mom of his son. At any rate, as Dwight Schultz requested last week, please keep Jerry in your prayers.

  14. not only is jerry an excellent talkshow host, but he's a guy you'd like to hang with, well at least until now.

the disregard for his audience by him and his network has changed that. there's no excuse for it. if he's going through something he wants to keep private he could do so and still show consideration for his audience by saying so and giving us some idea of how long he'll be absent.

the lack of response from the network displays complete contempt and ingratitude for the listeners who have made it successful. i'm disgusted.

    ReplyDelete
  15. When Rush Limbaugh went to rehab for 30 days, he was up-front about it with his audience. I suggest watching the B-Cast (thebcast.com) online news program, which airs from 4pm-5pm Eastern time. It is almost as entertaining as Jerry used to be...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hopefully Jerry knows his faithful listeners are praying for him, regardless of the cause for his absence. We really miss and need his wisdom on the political and financial issues we face. And his great sense of humor. Yesterday, I really enjoyed Ben Shapiro sitting in for him; such talent and wisdom for such a young man. But we really miss you Jerry...

  17. If the guest hosting continues beyond the end of this week, and without explanation, I'm done.

Schultzie has always been a good one day sub, but as his two week sub-stint progressed it became a total turn-off...as most of what he promised to "come up next after the break" never happened...and his infamous personality diversions started to take on that of a manic.

Ben Shapiro is also a good one day sub, but he's better not doing schtick as he did today. Jeff Kuhner - well since they changed his time slot - he is out of the picture.

Bottom line is, loyal fans ( and I'm sure paying advertisers too) need to know what the status of the show is going forward. If there is an exigency here in Jerry's life - then that needs to be disclosed. It would be tragic for this show to just fade off into the sunset without some reason(s) why, especially because Jerry would never approve of such a thing happening given all that he has put into it over the years.

    ReplyDelete
  18. "Jeff Kuhner ... he is out of the picture."

that's one bright spot in all this. the guy is unlistenable.
    agree with your other observations.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hey, the guy has something going on, let him be. He will be back when he can obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I know what you mean about Dwight Schultz... he sounds like someone on Hogan's Heroes! The complaint/concern about Jerry is directed at the station and/or Talk Radio Network. I believe Jerry's listeners are concerned for his well being and hope he returns ASAP, but still some explanation is in order.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'd actually like to see JD out..so Phil Hendrie can take over his slot here in So Cal

  22. "I'd actually like to see JD out..so Phil Hendrie can take over his slot here in So Cal"

I hope you are kidding! If not, you can hear P.H. on 760 KFMB San Diego at midnight weeknights, after the Jerry Doyle show.

Loved Schultz for awhile, but he did start to sound kinda strange.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Regardless of when J.D. comes back, and I hope it is soon, I will listen to his show. Not only does he bring an entertaining, unique perspective, unlike other talk show hosts, he actually learns from his guests and incorporates the knowledge they impart in future shows. All too often, talk show hosts only bring on guests to prompt them to confirm the ideology of the host, and once the host has extracted from them agreement with his own beliefs, he is finished with them. But Jerry is different, and as a listener, I feel as though I am sitting with him, learning as he does.

I want my "6 foot 3 ATM of informacion" back soon. We miss you Garibaldi!

  24. I've got this thing about attendance records and Jerry Doyle has without a doubt the worst in radio.

    ReplyDelete
  25. And didn't those fools at KDWN suddenly change Internet access so you can't get him live over the net, which I do/did from up here in Canada.

I've been a HUGE fan for 3 years since I stumbled across him down in Texas on a 8 month walkabout.

    Can't get enough of him.

Even wrote KDWN and got no response. Nice. You've got to wonder whether the radio people are tuned in enough to know that more listeners is BETTER!?! Du-huh? Why would they stop (international) access?

Oh well, sad not to here Heidi Harris anymore either, but it's off to the Truth in Arizona.

    Hope Jerry is doing well.

  26. According to Jerry Doyle's syndicator, Talk Radio Network, he is on "short term medical leave"

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love Jerry ---- I am a premium member and listen daily. I am very concerned. I have written the show, trn & kdwn --- no response. I cannot stand Ben Shapiro -- he sounds like a 12 year old on coke. I am way over Shultz -- his voice stuff and his boring chat, I can not do. So if Jerry doesn't return, or there is no comment about his disappearance, I will request a refund. This is not what I paid for. I think it is irresponsible not to tell the audience the status, and will it will end.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If you love Jerry, stop being as A$$ and realize he obviously has something really important and PERSONAL going on. Leave the guy alone!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm thinkin' Jerry took a serious nosedive. Just a couple days before his disappearance he mentioned that his girlfriend of seven years, "just walked out, can you believe that?" We all know how tough that can be. Hope he's ok. Get well soon JD.

    ReplyDelete
  30. He had a sleep apnea test a while back...maybe he had the surgery??

    ReplyDelete
  31. I really find algore's internet a wonderful thing. Look how we all asked "where is Jerry?" and found a place to talk to each other. Maybe that's something Jerry could add to his new website, a chat room or message board. Unlike Jerry, i thought his old website was ok, but the new one is improved!

Take care Jerry! Or get well. Or get over it;) Whatever, we will be here when you come back;)

    AJ

    ReplyDelete
  32. Short term medical leave. That's good enough for me. They just need to say so someplace where the listeners will hear it.

Prayers for Jerry, I'm hoping he's doing well and back on the air filling our ears soon. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. posting as "anonymous" is ridiculous. if you don't want to be known just make up a name so that we can distinguish you from all the other "anonymouses"

one of you posting as anonymous claims info from trn. where did you get it? you mean they actually responded to an email? that's a first.

you saying, "leave jerry alone" are idiots who are incapable of entertaining more than one thought at a time. i wish jerry the best. i also think he and/or his syndicator are exhibiting disrespect and lack of consideration and gratitude for the audience which sustains his program and the ad revenues in generates. the two coexist.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Archer must be a lib. can't help but name call;)

    AJ

    Leave Jerry alone!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I hope he comes back soon.
He's the only one on talk radio worth listening to.

    ReplyDelete
  36. We're thinking of you JD. Radio has learned to suck for three hours a day since you left.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It has been four weeks now since J.D. has been off the air and his loyal listeners are getting more than just concerned. Regardless of the reason(s) for his absence, a statement should be made to address his MIA status. It is not morbid curiosity, but rather genuine and deep concern for his well-being. There is power in prayer, but you have to know what you are praying for and right about now I'm praying that I don't have to listen to anymore of Dwight Schultz' impersonations! If there is something seriously wrong with Jerry's health his listeners should be told...to not is very disrespectful. I agree with Liam, the radio is not the same without Jerry. He has a brilliant mind that is insightful, and we all benefit from his commentary. Until we know for sure, let's all pray that he is okay.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jerry has been gone a month. An announcement so fans know something is in order since he continues to market&sell items from his website.
    Maybe something like :
"Due to personal issues Jerry will be absent for the next 3 to 6 months." Hope he's okay.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Be suspicious at every level:
What is it that Jerry used to say " creeping incrementilism " Is it not beyond the relm of possibility that Jerry was taken out to silence him. And who from the outspoken few will be next. Open your eyes fellow citizen's. A lot more is happening here than we're told.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I doubt that - Jerry might be among the best, but listenershipwise, he's way down in the pecking order influentially (check out Townhall's new listing of the top 100 most hated conservatives). It's still my gut feeling that the "perfect storm" of personal misfortune came crashing down on him, and he needed some PTO to regroup. Listen to someone talk for 15 hours a week, 48 weeks a year. . . for a few years, and you can really get to know them personally, and there are quite a few unresolved issues in Jerry's life (neer-do-well son, recently failed relationship, back problems, OCD to name a few). On the positive side, based on his long narratives, I can tell that he's a very good friend, and I'm thinking that love and support from his close friends will help him pull through. This guy is a gift to all talk radio lovers, and I sincerely pray for him to find the peace and happiness that he deserves. . . and coming back to us. For all of you "fair weather friends" threatening to abandon him just because he won't share his woes with us right now - jump ship and listen to the annoying and shallow Hannity - you deserve each other.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh yea. . . for the person threatening to cancel their $3.00 per month subscription so that they can hear the show commercial-free, just because he has the audacity to not spill his guts regarding his personal life to countless strangers: If I were Jerry, I'd probably pay this person $5.00 to cancel the subscription, and go away for good. . . aye-hole!!! Man-oh-man what WILL he do without your $3.00 per month lifestyle supplement????

    ReplyDelete
  42. Whats with the Morons in San Diego that want to listen to Phil Hendrie. This guy is an Obama loving leftist kook that pretends to do interviews by doing two or three voices. Can't stand the idiot and he admits to voting for Obama.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Dwight Schultz is bright enough, but he becomes outright unlistenable as he finds it impossible to complete a sentence without changing voices and characterizations four times. Dwight, please, just be yourself. We know you're a talented voice actor, but you cannot express a cogent thought while you twist and turn in and out of various dialects and charcaters. You come off sounding manic. Just get to the damn point, please!

    ReplyDelete
  44. To the guy who said Hannity is shalllow......THANKS! I thought i was the only one! I can agree with 95% of hat he says, but he is ANNOYING and REPETITIVE as HELL!

"hi mr liberal. Do you have an alter to obama?

Geez, Mark Levin should hang up on Hannity!

    AJ

    ReplyDelete
  45. "Whats with the Morons in San Diego that want to listen to Phil Hendrie."
Because his show is funny. I'd rather listen to him live and have Doyle come on at 1 am, like it used to be.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Las Vegas radio has gone to hell. First, tey get rid of Levin and move him onto the 9-12PM shift. They get rid of Hendrickson and Kydd and the Doyle is gone for who knows how long.
I agree with the comments about Hannity. While I agree with him most of the times, he is boring.
But I do like Hendrie. He is funny, especially after a couple of beers.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Jerry BACK July 5th! Dwight just said so!

  48. rich, you don't get it. no one is asking or expecting jerry to "spill his guts"

phil hendrie has the maturity and sense of humor of a 15 year old.

    aj, thanks for the info.

  49. Thank you, Anonymous.

I love Jerry and hope he is well. Miss him very much. I have my ideas, but they are just that. He clearly required privacy so lets give it to him and just wait and pray.

    ReplyDelete
  50. it's astonishing to me that some of you don't seem to understand that jerry's privacy and respect for the audience are not mutually exclusive concepts in conflict, so let me illustrate with this example:

jerry's absence is unavoidable. at this time he wishes to keep the nature and reason private. he, and trn, would like to thank his listeners for all the emails of concern and well withes. jerry will return. as soon as we have the date we will make it known.

this message should be played at the top of every hour and be posted on his and trn's website.

    bonehead simple and basic.

    ReplyDelete
  51. contrary to my misspelling of "wishes" i do not lisp

    ReplyDelete
  52. Archer: Point well taken - your example would have been ideal. Can't wait 'till 5 July! I have a feeling that he'll more than satisfy my (and obviously others') nosey natures during the opening monologue. On the topic of other talk shows, I subscribe to three: Jerry, John Gibson, and Tammy Bruce. While Tammy isn't for everybody (if listening women yelling irritates you. . . but DAMN she's passionate!) Gibson's show is on a par with Jerry's - very entertaining - fun banter between him and his 2 sidekicks. Check it out on TalkStream

    ReplyDelete
  53. Just want to reiterate. Dwight just promised. Jerry back oh JULY 5th!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Also agree with Archer. Rich, have you ever listened to Howie Carr on TalkStream?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Rich, I just subscribed to Tammy Bruce's website, and you are correct - she is a real flame-thrower, just great!! I wonder if Tammy and the other TRN hosts know what's going on with Jerry? Wouldn't it be fun to attend a forum with all/some of the TRN hosts up on stage and talking about the issues of the day?! July 5th should be interesting... I think Jerry might make some sort of cameo appearance this week, just to "test the waters" as they say...

  57. Schultz has a tone of voice that sounds like a preacher doing a sermon in church. Therefore I don't listen. Love Jerry! and Jason Lewis.
John Gibson is good but his callers are mostly uneducated blacks who sound stupid. Hannity has the same stupid lib callers.Jerry Doyle handles callers perfectly. Lets them have their say, then
responds and then thx 4 the call.WooHoo! Jerry is back July 5th!!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Martino: I researched Howie Carr for broadcast time, and got 3-7pm on WRKO, but just got Savage on that station and time. . . even on Talkstream live. If we're on the same page listening tastewise, I'd love to give him a try - when and where does he broadcast? Anyone? Also,
1 July's Anonymous, Gibson does have quite a few "unhinged" African Americans (Black "Sheeple" to the Obama administration) who call in, but there's also quite a few intelligent and rational ones too - thank God - keeps me from getting the urge to generalize! What I love about the guy is that he never comes across as condescending, and he has a self-depreciating sense of humor, which few in that business do - prob. 'cause Christine and Angry Rich keep him humble. Must say though - I'm anxiously anticipating Jerry's return he may have an explanation that will surprise us. He had been talking about doing a massive roadtrip, and touching base with the pulse of America. If the guy was willing to be honest and intimate with his audience to tell us that his sweetheart had moved out on him after 7 years, you KNOW that he'll level with us on Monday. . . not that he owes it to us! God bless him - he's provided me, for one a ton of enjoyment over the last 3 or so years!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Also. . . July 1st Anonymous (not to be confused with July 28th Anonymous. . . choose a name folks!): I love Schultz, I'd vote for him if he ever ran for ANYTHING - but yea. . . preacher. One step further - BAPTIST preacher! He cooled it a bit with the voice changes, which helped, but still, too manic. I compare him with Beck - BRILLIANT, but too exhausting emotionally.

    ReplyDelete
  60. For whatever it is worth, the best talk show host I have ever heard is Mark Belling out of Milwaukee. He subs for Rush every now and then. He does ok then, but his local show is the best. Much better than anything Vegas has to offer and he discusses a lot of national news.
He is on WISN, 1130 in Milwaukee.

    ReplyDelete
  61. HE will return JULY 5th, and Jerry did have an issue with both his girlfriend and a problem with a small lump on his right lung. He has had a biopsy and HAS begun a program to stop smoking. His girlfriend left when Jerry went to San Diego because she has felt like marriage is not his first goal. They have spoken and expect to hear Jerry will be engaged and back to health and happiness.....From a close friend.

    ReplyDelete
  62. well, "most recent anonymous", that's all good news if true but seems to me you may be breaking a confidence. if jerry wanted these details known prior to his return i think he would have make it happen on his site or on the show.

  63. "Stuuuuunad"

Love that word JD uses...it has so many connotations; it's just about the most perfect word.

Let's hope he opens his July 5th show by calling everyone who has opined about his MIA status a "Stuuunad", and then simply be honest about they why he was MIA and why it was untenable to disclose the reason why before now.

That's all that's needed. After that - the rest will take its course.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thanks for the scoop anony. Giving up the smokes is gonna be the toughest thing he's ever gone through - I can attest to that - I remember a few years ago, he thought he had it licked. . . through hypnosis - backslid back into the habit "for the kids" (tongue in cheek!)Hope his next down time is for a honeymoon! He's gonna need the support of a good and loyal woman now more than ever. Jerry - if you're reading this blog, God Bless you Bud! You are very loved, and missed!

  69. Hey Archer, sorry about your brother.
I told you guys it started with the break up. That much stress tanks the immune system, and the uncontrolled blood pressure didn't help. I didn't have any info, but I just had a feeling. One note of trivia: the medically induced coma is usually achieved using propofol, the stuff that killed Michael Jaclson. That's why it's used while the patient is on a ventilator.
