Another hot day in Las Vegas and so we went to see another magic show. Our son really, really loves magic and so like doting parents we took him to about his seventh magic show tonight. We saw Ariann Black Secrets at the Westin Hotel. The Westin is On Flamingo, just east of the Strip.
The showroom was nice, with about 100 seats in it.
The show features Ariann Black, one of very few female magicians around and 3 dancing/helper girls. If you bring young pubescent males to the show, beware as the dancers/helpers while quite talented also dress very sexy, sometimes wearing just bras and thongs with some scarves. But being the gentleman I am, I appreciated their ability. Man, I'm getting old.
Anyways, Ariann is a very talented magician, just as talented or more as most of the other acts on or around the Strip. (I have not seen the "big" shows like Penn and Teller or Chris Angel) While she does most of the same tricks the rest of the guys do, she does them in a more amazing way. For instance, for the most part, she does not hide behind a cape or long sleeve shirts. So, you know she has nothing up her sleeve, literally.
Another example of this is doing the ESP trick. With Nathan Burton, you had a box above the stage and when someone said a particular thing, he would point to the box above the stage. He would then pull out the same information out of a closed box. With Ariann, she had the same kind of trick, but the paper was in full view of the audience during the entire show. How did she do it, I have no idea. Again, braver than Nathan Burton.
She also has escape magic as she gets out of different types of escape props and she somehow takes off a coat off a gentleman and put it on herself. Very talented.
She also does wonderful card tricks, including making many cards appear and disappear without the usual cape or long sleeves. My son's favorite trick was making birds appear out of no where and my daughters were the dancers and the 6 armed Hindu God. Ariann has many other tricks and illusions which were very entertaining.
If you are into magic and want to see the magic up close, this a very good show to see. The performers are talented, girls are pretty and sexy and the magic is quite good. She can also be an inspiration to a girl who wants to be a performer but is told no because she is a girl.
The customer service was nice, except during the show, an employee of the hotel or show started talking to a guest in the middle part of the show which was very distracting and I heard talking in the sound/light booth on one occasion which also was distracting.
Ariann Black Secrets again is at the Westin at 7:00, 6 days a week, except Wednesdays.
