Bad Day For Opportunity Village

The thrift store of Opportunity Village in the downtown area was destroyed by a fire this evening.
Watching the TV video footage on Channel 13, the building was completely destroyed along with it's content.
Earlier in the day, there was a massive electrical transformer explosion followed by a gas leak. Southwest Gas denied that a gas leak was the cause, blaming another source for the fire. However, based on fast the fire spread, based on the news reports, you really have to wonder if a gas leak was not the cause. Typical CYA moment by a utility company.
This is a good bad news/good news moment for Opportunity Village. The bad news is that they lost the building along with the contents. The good news is that with all store vacancies, especially large stores, throughout the Valley, they will be able to find a new store without any problems and at a good price or possibly free within a very short time.
This is really going to hurt the people from Opportunity Village who work there. Opportunity Village serves clients who are developmentally disabled. It is one of the Valley's most popular charities.
The clients that work there get a paycheck along with the opportunity to work in a real life job. Those that work there will have problems understanding what happened and that their life just got turned upside down. Many of those clients have a set routine and now that that routine has been changed, they will have a hard time adjusting. Good luck to Opportunity Village.
