The County and the CCFD firefighter's union have agreed to go to arbriatration. From the LVRJ: Clark County and its local firefighters union will go to arbitration to settle the deadlock in contract talks.
Commissioner Steve Sisolak said Friday that the county manager confirmed receiving a letter from the president of the firefighters union stating his willingness to pursue binding arbitration.

I don't think it matters if the union goes to arbitration or not. If the union wins, all the County will do is either layoff firefighters and go to station or equipment brownouts.
If the County wins, we may have the same service as we have today, but the firefighters will have less in their pockets.
Bottom line, no one wins while the economy is in the tank.

My dad was a firefighter, forceably retired after two unrelated workplace incidents. I think firefighters are worth whatever we can afford to pay them. It is curious that the solidarity we felt for emergency workers after 9/11 has fallen by the wayside lately.
ReplyDeleteI find it curious as well. My guess is that when the salaries started coming out and how much they were, that is what took back some goodwill. That and the strong arm union tatics as well.
