Wow: 72 Years Without Win, Finally Gone

From the San Diego Union Times: Franklin D. Roosevelt was president. The NBA didn’t exist. John Lennon, Jack Nicklaus and Pele were babies. Pearl Harbor was a year from attack. The school on Montezuma Mesa was known as San Diego State College.
The year was 1940 and the date was Dec. 7, and San Diego State College beat UCLA 34-31 in men’s basketball.
It took until Saturday night to do it again.
But here’s the thing: The only place this might have been an upset was in history and reputation.
The No. 23 Aztecs beat the 11-time NCAA champions 78-69 because they were the better team, or at least they played and looked and acted like it. It was their 26th win against schools from California – 11th straight against current members of the Pac-12 – and had the SDSC.
Congrats to San Diego State College for finally beating UCLA. This is pretty much case of SDSC getting lucky to beat UCLA but they did.  Hopefully, they will not have to wait another 72 years before they win again.
