A Tale Of Two California Prison Sentences

So, do you consider these sentences fair?
From the New York Daily News:
A California hockey mom who had sex with teens after arranging sleepovers for her son's team has been jailed.
Kathia Maria Davis, 46, was sentenced to 16 months in jail for the sordid slumber parties where she slept with two boys, aged 14 and 16.
One of her victims told the court how the abuse had affected him.
"Holding all this in as a child forced me to grow up in ways I never wanted to," his statement read.
"She took the things that I loved most and ripped them out of my life. I will never know what could have been," he added.

And from the Sacramento Bee: A priest who crawled into the bed of a 13-year-old girl to molest her when he was an overnight guest in her parent's home admitted his betrayal to his victim and her family Friday in a case that unnerved Sacramento's Catholic community for more than 20 months.
"My actions were of a weak and sinful man," the Rev. Uriel Ojeda said in his first public admission to molesting the girl – first when he worked at Holy Rosary Parish in Woodland and later after he had been transferred to Our Lady of Mercy in Redding.
Sacramento Superior Court Judge Eugene L. Balonon then sentenced Ojeda, 33, to eight years in prison for touching the girl in a manner that "constitutes substantial sexual conduct" under the California Penal Code.   http://www.sacbee.com/2013/08/03/5620865/priest-draws-8-year-prison-sentence.htmlBoth cases occurred in California, so they are operating under the same laws.  And the circumstances are about the same- both abusers were supposed to be trusted adults.  The main difference is the woman abused 2 kids, both who were a little bit older than the female victim in Sacramento. So, the woman abuser only gets 16 month in jail and the priest gets 8 years?Where is the fairness in the sentences- shouldn't the woman get more years than the priest since 2 kids were involved?Or maybe the priest's sentence is unfair- maybe he should have only gotten a year in jail and I don't think he even had intercourse with the girl.Or just maybe, this illustrates that men, when it comes to sex crimes are treated more harshly than women and that women are treated with kid gloves when it comes to sex crimes against children.

  1. If you're looking for perfect justice in ANY civil court system, you're looking in the wrong place.
