Ireland has decided to become the first country to vote for gay marriage.
From the NY Daily News: Irish voters backed a constitutional amendment legalizing gay marriage — the world’s first national vote on the issue — by an almost 2-to-1 margin, officials declared Saturday.
The historically conservative Catholic country voted 62.1% in favor of the amendment. The final tally was 1.2 million for the measure and about 700,000 opposing it.
“We’re the first country in the world to enshrine marriage equality in our constitution and do so by popular mandate,” said Leo Varadkar, a cabinet minister who came out as gay at the beginning of the effort to amend the country’s constitution. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/ireland-voted-resoundingly-legalize-gay-marriage-article-1.2233085
I would not have voted for the amendment based on my personal views but I prefer a country or state vote for gay marriage rather than a bunch old judges who make the decision.
So, if Ireland votes for gay marriage, I have no real problems with it.
And I will still enjoy my Irish music.
