R.I.P. Sparky Anderson

Sparky Anderson, one of the best managers ever in Major League Baseball, passed away from complications of dementia.
He won 3 World Series titles and was an all around good guy. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5764168

The funniest story I heard about Sparky Anderson was there was one umpire in the big leagues who always refused to argue with Anderson, saying he would not argue with a guy named "Sparky".
Dementia is such a horrid disease. You take a brilliant mind and it literally turns it into mush. I used to work in nursing homes, working with people with Alzheimer's and dementia. You would have educators, lawyers, doctors etc in the nursing home suffering from dementia and their minds were that of a 1 year old. What a terrible disease for the patient and the family of the patients. What was even sadder was when the family would abandon the patient.

So, rest in peace Sparky Anderson, you deserve the rest and I hope you manage in the biggest league of all.
