Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 69, made millions of dollars over 30 years, performing as many illegal, late-term abortions as he could, prosecutors said. State regulators ignored complaints about him and failed to visit or inspect his clinic since 1993, but no charges were warranted against them, District Attorney Seth Williams said.
Gosnell, his wife and eight other colleagues were arrested overnight Tuesday following a grand jury investigation, MyFoxPhilly.com reports.
According to the district attorney's office, Gosnell is facing murder in the third degree for the death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar. The patient died Nov. 20, 2009, when she was overdosed with anesthetics prescribed by Gosnell, according to the station.
Williams said during a press conference Wednesday that Gosnell "induced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, eighth month of pregnancy and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord."
The district attorney also said patients were subjected to squalid and barbaric conditions at Gosnell's Women's Medical Society.
Authorities went to investigate drug-related complaints at the clinic last year and stumbled on what Williams called a "house of horrors."
"There were bags and bottles holding aborted fetuses scattered throughout the building," Williams said. "There were jars, lining shelves, with severed feet that he kept for no medical purpose."

I just don't understand how a person can kill innocent babies. I realize there are times when an abortion is needed- life of the mother is in danger and rape or incest. I truly believe abortion doctors are truly evil.
The fact that his clinic was not inspected since 1993 tells me the government of PA. are like the three monkeys: See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil. The government officials who are in charge of inspecting the clinic are just as culpable for this brutality.
But this man has no soul and is a brutal killer and I am sure there more of him out there.
Abortion rights advocate have some serious explaining to do in why they supported this doctor.
Update: Thinking this over, this vile clump of cells of a doctor is at least as worse than Jeffery Dahmer, if not worse. My money is on worse.
Sadly, this also reeminds me of Russ Feingold, former U.S. Senator of Wisconsin, where he had said on the Senate floor, if a baby is born alive during an abortion, it would be up to the doctor and the mother whether to kill the baby. I guess, sadly, Feingold was right. I bet he is happy with this case because this is what he preached.
NARAL (Very Liberal Pro choice web site)has nothing to say about this horrible tragedy on their web site. Neither has Planned Parenthood. I guess I am not surprised.

President Obama for in favor of this kind of thing when he was in the Illinois State Senate. The Born Alive Infant Protection Act was designed to prevent this. Obama fervently opposed the bill and passionately argued in favor of depriving born alive babies of life-saving medical care. Even in rape and incest, the human being being created in the womb is alive and human. The baby did not rape; the baby did not incest, yet s(he) must pay the price? The life of the mother is the only reason abortion is ethical.
