Maybe This Is Why The City Of Reno Is Broke?

The City of Reno is going to have to layoff about 30 city employees. This part of the article from the Reno Gazette Journal stands out: With the average employee costing about $100,000 in pay and benefits, a cut of $2-3 million would equate to 20 to 30 employees. The city’s general fund budget is just under $170 million. http://www.rgj.com/article/20110118/NEWS/110118036
City council members make over $63,000 a year for part time hours.
$100,000 in salary and benefits average for each city employee? That is quite a bit of money for the average city employee and it sounds like there are a bunch of over priced government employees in Reno.
And people wonder why state and local governments are in danger of bankruptcy.
