Guns For Teachers? Umm, No. Or Hell No

Today, Alan Stock, from 840AM, on his afternoon show was cheering on a proposal for arming teachers with guns.
While I generally support CCW and owning different types of guns, I think this a very stupid idea, especially within CCSD.
First, we have the CCSD school police in all high schools where most shootings occur. At our school, we have to permanent police officers assigned to our school along with school patrol officers. If an incident occurred at a high school, the police officers, with guns drawn, can be at the trouble site within seconds.
Second, a way to keep guns out of schools would be to lock down a school to visitors, which isn't happening. Keep the outdoor doors locked except for the main door.
And finally, if people are afraid of guns, then the district should put in metal detectors in schools. This would greatly reduce the number guns and knives coming onto school grounds.
These solutions will solve many of the problems of guns on school grounds.
No armed teachers. Better prevention would solve most any problem relating to guns on school property.

  1. Interesting take on it. My dad was a teacher in Manhattan and they had metal detectors and security working the beat.

I'm currently working as sub support staff here in Clark and I'm also training to be a Special Ed. teacher in the ARL program. Who knows, maybe I'll run into you. Always happy to give comments.

  2. Good luck in the program. Almost guranteed a job in CCSD or any other place.

  3. Wisconsin's crazy State Rep. Lasee proposed arming teachers several years ago in the aftermath of a school shooting up north. It got national attention and was widely derided as a crazy idea. Lasee then claimed that his proposal had been misrepresented and dropped it. It says something about what wingnut radio has done to the national conversation that bad ideas like this aren't allowed to die a natural death.
