Congress Woman Shot Dead In Arizona

From NPR: Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and six others died after a gunman opened fire at a public event on Saturday, member station KJZZ in Phoenix has confirmed.
The Pima County, Ariz., sheriff's office told news director Mark Moran the 40-year-old Democrat was killed.
Giffords, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.
Giffords was talking to a couple when the suspect ran up and fired indiscriminately from about four feet away, Michaels said.
The suspect ran off and was tackled by a bystander. He was taken into custody. Witnesses described him as in his late teens or early 20s.

Update: According to Fox News, the congresswoman is in grave condition after being shot point blank in the head. She is in surgery. They also are saying at least 19 people were shot and at least 5 people have been killed.
Fox also reported that the gunman was supposedly in a gun fight with the police but is not hurt. He/she is in custody. They also are searching for a second gunman.
Fox News had earlier reported the Congresswoman had died but changed their report.

Update 2 From CNN who interviewed a Deputy. 6 people have been killed. A federal judge has been shot as well.

From Fox, a State Senator reported that Gifford was shot in the temple but is responding to commands. I doubt that. She was still in surgery a few minutes go. This State Senator, Linda Lopez, is blaming the Tea Party. Crack pot.

Update: Federal Judge John Roll was killed in the attack according to Fox.

Fox News reports that the shooter is a 22 year old white male and is a veteran from the Afghanistan War.

Fox News is reporting that congresswoman's home and offices have been secured.
The congresswoman is a Blue Dog Democrat. Liberal on some issues but is conservative on gun rights and border security.

Fox News is reporting a second person has been arrested.
