The lovely Cathy and myself spent several hours at the TPC Summerlin golf course today watching the Justin Timberlake Shriner's Hospital Open in which Las Vegas native Kevin Na won the tournament.
The golf was fun to watch but it was highly disappointing to see so few fans at the event.
In most golf events, the 18th hole, where the players finish the tournament, it would be wall to wall people and the 18th green would be 6 or 7 deep with people.
Not here in Vegas. We sat about 150 yards from the 18th green, where the players would take their second shot into the green and I could swing a dead cat 20 feet in any direction and not hit anyone. The 18th green had about 100 people on the right side of the green and maybe about 200 people on the hill on the left side of the green. There were maybe 200 in the box seats in the back of the green. That is pathetic and shows that Las Vegas just doesn't support golf tournaments.

It was so pathetic that two men were standing outside the golf course trying to give away tickets to today's round and they could not get rid of them. As of 10:30, the LVRJ did not do a story on the final round, but they had time to report a murder in Reno, 500 miles away. That's embarrassing.
Las Vegas wants to be a professional sports town, trying to bring in a major basketball, hockey or soccer team. If Las Vegas cannot support special sporting events like golf, NASCAR racing, rodeos, semi pro football and minor league hockey and baseball, then why do you think we could support a professional major league sporting team?

So, congratulations to Kevin Na for winning the tournament and thank you for Justin Timberlake and the PGA for sponsoring the tournament and holding it in Las Vegas instead of another city.
