Back in the month of February, 1960, my birth mom got pregnant somewhere in the city of Green Bay, WI. 9 months later, I was born and a few months later, I was adopted by my parents, Barbara and David and I was the son they never had. While sometimes, by my antics, they may have regretted their decision, they raised me and helped shape me for whom I am.
Now, I do not know the circumstances of my pre-birth beginning. Was I product of being raped? Was my birth mom single and poor? Was I a product of unplanned pregnancy of a single woman (as big and tall as I am, maybe pops is a Green Bay Packer?)
No matter what, there was a reason why my birth mom gave me up for adoption and I am happy that she did. She could have ended her pregnancy, even though abortion was illegal. She could have induced an abortion in many different ways and she chose not to.
Now, my views:
So, in terms of rape of woman, Of course, the Supreme Court ruled that a rapist cannot be given the
death penalty, why should the baby inside the woman be given the death
penalty.
But I am reluctant to say that in cases of rape, the woman should have a choice of abortion, though I would hope the choice would be life, but I also understand the ramifications of a forced and unwanted pregnancy.
As far as the physical health of the mother being endangered due to a pregnancy, I feel that the woman should have the choice and this is a no brainer to me. Fortunately, this instance rarely happens.
If a baby is going to be born physically or mentally disabled or if the parents wanted a girl and are going to have a boy or vice versa, I'm sorry but I just cannot see a person getting an abortion. To me, that is being selfish on the part of the parents. They can give the baby up after birth to parents who want the child and there are many childless couples out there who would want a baby, even if the baby is not perfect.
And if the mother just doesn't want the baby, too bad- you and/or the guy should have had protection or not jumped into bed. If there is a pregnancy, deal with it for 9 months and give up the baby.
Now, I know my views on abortion are at odds with many people. Some more conservatives won't like my view of abortion in rape or when the health of the mother is in danger, while the more liberal person will not my views when there is a disability or an unwanted pregnancy. And I really don't care because I don't force my views on other people like the very conservative who parade in front of abortion clinics or the liberals who think that there is nothing wrong with having abortions.
I do believe in and will support strong regulations on abortion clinics to make them medically safe. Earlier this year, a patient died at a Planned Parenthood clinic in the Chicago area and there have been other serious problems in the medical clinics, like this: http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2011/01/another-reason-to-believe-abortion.html and this: http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2012/07/planned-parenthood-kills-patient.html
I think it is perfectly logical to make sure abortion clinics are safe, really safe because abortion is a serious medical procedure and the woman needs to be protected from abortion doctors who don't believe in being medically safe.
So, I realize I will not change many minds on abortions and those who disagree with me will not change my mind and for that, oh well.
But in the end, even though I do not know who my birth mom is, all I can say is thank you for allowing me to live and allowed me to be adopted and live a good life.
