In Las Vegas, if a mosquito drops a bead of sweat, the weathermen will call it rain and the TV newscasters will make it a lead story.
However, today's weather is actually newsworthy here in Las Vegas. In the past 16 hours or so, we have had about 2 inches of rain at McCarren Airport and in some other places, much more than that, including places in Henderson that received 1 1/2 inches in 1 hour.
The Clark County and City of Las Vegas fire departments went on almost 20 water rescues and other water related emergencies and in fact, there is a swift water rescue going on right now.
Many roads have had debris strewn on them. The biggest problem is the decorative rock home owners and at apartment complexes have been washed out and all the rock and dirt is then thrust into the road, making the roads almost impassable in some areas in the best of times and there have been many roads closed because of the debris and high waters. Henderson seems to be pretty badly hit and we will need many road graders come to town and plow out the roads that are impassable.
There was a report on KXNT that a man has fallen into the Pittman Wash by Stephanie Rd and is missing. From the LVRJ: A teenager was missing after falling into a wash during the downpour Wednesday morning.
Henderson officials said a person called 911 about 11:40 a.m. and
said a teenage boy had fallen into the Pittman Wash near Stephanie
Street and Sunset Road, behind the Target shopping center.
A Las Vegas police helicopter as well as Henderson police and firefighters attempted to find the person, but were unsuccessful.
Authorities were looking downstream to locate the boy. The wash,
which empties into the Las Vegas Wash near Sam Boyd Stadium, was filled
with storm runoff when the boy disappeared. http://www.lvrj.com/news/thunderstorms-bring-flash-flood-warning-for-clark-county-167051235.html
The rain is continuing nd we have another large cell coming into the Valley from the south.
Here is a video of the Pittman Wash and the water run off:
