Someone
called police about 5:30 p.m. to report that a transient man in his
50s, with no shirt on, was screaming and carrying a large knife near a
bus stop at Robinson Street and Fourth Avenue, police Officer David
Stafford said.
Officers
found the man and were standing behind and in front of him when he
raised what appeared to be a big hatchet, Stafford said. He said the
officer behind the man fired a Taser, and the barbs hit the man in the
back. He fell to the ground and hit his head, causing a cut.
The
officers then discovered that the hatchet was a realistic Nerf toy. The
man was taken to a hospital for treatment of the cut and to remove the
Taser barbs, and then he was to be taken to a mental hospital, Stafford
said. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/aug/18/man-nerf-hatchet-subdued-taser/
I'm sorry, but a Nerf sword does not look realistic, compared to a real sword. (and yes I have seen a Nerf sword)
