R.I.P Maple Bluff 56

When I was working my way through college at U.W. Madison (never took a loan), I volunteered at the Maple Bluff fire Department as a firefighter and EMT in the 1990's.
Maple Bluff is a small village, literally inside of Madison, WI., on the shores of Lake Mendota. Firefighting wasn't much. I injured my back when I was carrying a ladder and my foot went into a pot hole, screwing up my back, which still hurts. I only participated in 2 fires, a large house fire in which I operated the radios at the station and a town house fire.
As an EMT, I was one of the EMT's who would work during an ice storm during a riot and never receive a call. Other EMT's would work in beautiful blue skys and get all the exciting runs.
Anyways, this past January, while I was listening to the Dane County Fire channel online, I heard that Maple Bluff 56 is now out of service. The ambulance covered parts of Blooming Grove and Town of Burke along with Maple Bluff. Maple Bluff lost the contracts of Blooming Grove and Burke and that killed the service.
Maple Bluff will now be covered by the Maple Bluff Fire Department and Ryan Brothers, a private ambulance firm.
So, I am saddened to see the end of Maple Bluff 56. It was a lot of fun.
