And You Wonder Why Clark County Has 15% Unemployment And No Company Wants To Invest In Nevada

Well, the Clark County commissioners through their stupid ass decision to change a county ordinance on what is a casino and what is a bar, just put out about 100 businesses out of business and hundreds if not thousands of people out of work. From the Las Vegas Sun: Dotty’s and similar taverns will have to perform substantial renovations or shut down after Clark County commissioners on Tuesday approved new regulations for taverns with slot machines. Commissioners approved the controversial changes after discussing four proposed ordinances for about five hours. Commissioners Tom Collins and Chris Giunchigliani voted against the change. Some taverns came under fire from big casinos that argued Dotty’s and some similar establishments weren’t in compliance with regulations that allowed taverns to have a “restricted” gaming license if slot machines were “incidental” to the main business. The Nevada Resort Association argued that some of the taverns used gaming as their main business, while Dotty’s said its business model was already approved by the Gaming Control Board and previous commissioners. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/apr/05/county-taverns-slots-must-change-or-close/ Steve Sisolak, Larry Brown, Lawrence Weekly, Susan Braeger and Mary Beth Scow are the pathetic commissioners who are doing the bidding of the large casinos and the employee unions. I am sure these 5 commissioners will be paid handsomely by the casino employee unions and by the large casinos in town. I would think that if an investigation occurred, you will find that there was some money paid off to some of the commissioners for their votes on these matters, like in the good old days. It should be pointed out that the County Commissioners are all Democrats. Then people wonder why companies will not invest in Nevada. This is exhibit A, B and C.

  1. What surprises me, is that Dotty's has over SIXTY locations. When the hell did that happen and why? I wandered into one once when washing a giant bedspread at a laundromat in Henderson. Little old lady den, and slots are NO WAY incidental to their business. . .it was their entire business. You might have to consider that these places really ARE misusing their business licenses.

  3. Hey, for grins, I did a Google Maps search. The place is still there! Don't know about the Dotty's, but I'll bet it still is in the same complex: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&wrapid=tljp1302338479494020&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=laundromat+las+vegas&fb=1&gl=us&hq=laundromat&hnear=Las+Vegas,+NV&ei=xhugTbHgFMmBgAfJ_5TaBQ&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=image&resnum=4&sqi=2&ved=0CAkQtgMwAw
