The Las Vegas Sun Inc says that Nevada is going after $2,400,000,000 that Florida turned down. Supposedly, some people in Nevada, mainly Harry Reid, wants to try and fund the boondoogle train from Las Vegas to Victorville, CA. From Las Vegas Sun Inc.:
Nevada is in the hunt for $2.4 billion in high-speed rail funding rejected by Florida Gov. Rick Scott. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Wednesday said the Federal Railroad Administration has started evaluating more than 90 high-speed rail proposals totaling nearly $10 billion from 24 states, the District of Columbia and Amtrak. Nevada’s proposal, to connect Las Vegas with Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Los Angeles as part of a western rail network, is being developed by the Las Vegas-based Western High Speed Rail Alliance. Eric Glick, the Nevada Transportation Department’s rail program manager, said the state made the formal application on behalf of the association. http://www.vegasinc.com/news/2011/apr/06/nevada-going-after-24-billion-rail-funding-rejecte/ This is just throwing good money after bad money. The money should just be returned to the taxpayer instead being sent to some states who have their hand out. But I don't think the federal government knows how to do this. Further, Nevada doesn't need the money. We also don't need the train route from Las Vegas to Victorville. Stupid, stupid, stupid idea. I also find it hard to believe that Brian Sandoval is behind this.
